When I have occasion to talk to people, the question is often, "How's it going?" My answer always seems to be "Up and down." Life is always up and down. I am fortunate that much of my life is "up," but there are down times as well. I try to fix what I can to make things better; I have to go on past what I can't fix; I try to know the difference. I am blessed with a loving wife; a caring family, and a group of extremely supportive and insightful friends.
So I want to talk for a moment about some of the down things and how to fix them.
I am aware of some of the problems that have been discussed on COTI.
A variety of errata for the Classic Traveller reprints have been pointed out. We have put together an errata page on the Far Future site with downloadable pages or fixes at www.farfuture.net/errata.html. If you have copies of the Classic Reprints, please visit the site and download the fixes. If you find your copy of a reprint has a problem or an errata, tell us, and we'll post fixes.
A variety of errata for the Classic Traveller CDROM (and other CDROMs) have been pointed out as well. This is a larger project and it will take longer, but these will be fixed as well. Several of you have stepped forward and volunteers your efforts to make, check, or create corrected files, and I am extremely appreciative of all of you. When those fixes are ready, we will post a similar CDROM errata page (and make available an updated disk as well).
I spoke with Hunter Gordon several days ago. I need to tell all of you that without his generous support of COTI we wouldn't even have these forums. He is aware himself of some delays in orders, especially print orders, and he told me personally he is getting those fixed.
I spoke with Matthew at Mongoose. He shared with me how pleased he is with the sales of, and reaction to, Mongoose Traveller. When we originally negotiated for the publication of Mongoose Traveller, we agreed that his wider distribution channels would make Traveller more available than ever, and would attract new players to this game system we all enjoy.
So Mongoose Traveller is in the stores, and T5 is on the horizon. Traveller was, is, and will be for a very long time the premier Sci Fi RPG!
I wanted to specifically mention Martin's Type S adventure. Not only was it hot hot hot on DRiveThruRPG, it represents the sort of playable adventure that we all enjoy. I urge you, if you haven't played it yet, to look at it.
If you have not boarded Starship T5 yet, I encourage you to do so. You have the opportunity to enjoy the texts now rather than later, and to participate in a monumental undertaking.
You can order the T5 CDROM (and the other Traveller CDROMs) at www.farfuture.net. After you do, contact DonM for access to the private T5 forums (and about the CDROM improvement project).
You can see the available Classic Reprints Errata pages at www.farfuture.net/errata.html
And finally, it is a tradition to announce the Emperor's Birthday Honors list on August 29, recognizing those who have made significant contributions to Traveller (these recipients will also hear directly by email).
To Daoloth for his special services organizing the errata.
To Andrew Boulton, FreeTrav, Fritz_Brown, Kurega Gikur, lspitz, ronnyquest, Scott Martin, and Whipsnade for their general service. Their reviews of texts on a preliminary basis help make what COTI sees so much more polished.
To Apparition, fridge, Ganymede, kilbrj, Magnus Thornwood, Nick Nova, sturn, grendelttroll, and twwoombat for their specific efforts reviewing the various rules.
