When I have occasion to talk to people, the question is often, "How's it going?" My answer always seems to be "Up and down." Life is always up and down. I am fortunate that much of my life is "up," but there are down times as well. I try to fix what I can to make things better; I have to go on past what I can't fix; I try to know the difference. I am blessed with a loving wife; a caring family, and a group of extremely supportive and insightful friends.

So I want to talk for a moment about some of the down things and how to fix them.

I am aware of some of the problems that have been discussed on COTI.

A variety of errata for the Classic Traveller reprints have been pointed out. We have put together an errata page on the Far Future site with downloadable pages or fixes at www.farfuture.net/errata.html. If you have copies of the Classic Reprints, please visit the site and download the fixes. If you find your copy of a reprint has a problem or an errata, tell us, and we'll post fixes.

A variety of errata for the Classic Traveller CDROM (and other CDROMs) have been pointed out as well. This is a larger project and it will take longer, but these will be fixed as well. Several of you have stepped forward and volunteers your efforts to make, check, or create corrected files, and I am extremely appreciative of all of you. When those fixes are ready, we will post a similar CDROM errata page (and make available an updated disk as well).

I spoke with Hunter Gordon several days ago. I need to tell all of you that without his generous support of COTI we wouldn't even have these forums. He is aware himself of some delays in orders, especially print orders, and he told me personally he is getting those fixed.

I spoke with Matthew at Mongoose. He shared with me how pleased he is with the sales of, and reaction to, Mongoose Traveller. When we originally negotiated for the publication of Mongoose Traveller, we agreed that his wider distribution channels would make Traveller more available than ever, and would attract new players to this game system we all enjoy.

So Mongoose Traveller is in the stores, and T5 is on the horizon. Traveller was, is, and will be for a very long time the premier Sci Fi RPG!

I wanted to specifically mention Martin's Type S adventure. Not only was it hot hot hot on DRiveThruRPG, it represents the sort of playable adventure that we all enjoy. I urge you, if you haven't played it yet, to look at it.

If you have not boarded Starship T5 yet, I encourage you to do so. You have the opportunity to enjoy the texts now rather than later, and to participate in a monumental undertaking.

You can order the T5 CDROM (and the other Traveller CDROMs) at www.farfuture.net. After you do, contact DonM for access to the private T5 forums (and about the CDROM improvement project).

You can see the available Classic Reprints Errata pages at www.farfuture.net/errata.html

And finally, it is a tradition to announce the Emperor's Birthday Honors list on August 29, recognizing those who have made significant contributions to Traveller (these recipients will also hear directly by email).

To Daoloth for his special services organizing the errata.

To Andrew Boulton, FreeTrav, Fritz_Brown, Kurega Gikur, lspitz, ronnyquest, Scott Martin, and Whipsnade for their general service. Their reviews of texts on a preliminary basis help make what COTI sees so much more polished.

To Apparition, fridge, Ganymede, kilbrj, Magnus Thornwood, Nick Nova, sturn, grendelttroll, and twwoombat for their specific efforts reviewing the various rules.

Thanks for posting openly on this board. It is quite apperciated. I have been a avid Traveller collector since I undrstood that the small odd books with the colored bands in the game store was actually the "parent" to MegaTraveller when I started out with RPG games back in 88.

For going with T5 I voted maybe. I am not sure if I am going to switch rules system as the TNE rules suits me just fine. And I have spent countless hours designing starships, weapons and so on with FF&S, my favourite Traveller suplement. However, I am going to mine T5 for what I find useful for my own campaign.

I am following the T5 development, and reads most of the posts. However RL issues makes it a bit difficult to participate properly. I am looking forward to the final product.

And thanks for a very interesting game =0)

I happen to like this site, a lot. When I speak out against something it's because I think it's bad and makes the site less enjoyable, thereby hurting it as it can discourage people from using it.

So yes, even when I'm speaking out on some things or the way some people occasionally act it's meant to make the site better, not just dump on it or people associated with it.

There is such a thing as constructive criticism.

And yes, of course I want to see a T5, and I want Traveller to survive and succeed, live long and prosper. I'd love to see an EABA version/conversion for traveller, I'd love to see an alternate setting for traveller that was essentially a higher tech/transhumanist style continuity reboot that would keep the basic framework of traveller (jump drive, imperium, etc) but allow for transhumanist type campaigns.

Thanks for your post, Marc, and thanks to the volunteers for helping out with T5.

I voted Hell Yes. T5 is the first game I've been looking forward to in years,* and I do own and play many other games besides Traveller.

*OK well, and the upcoming new Hackmaster edition. I know, I know.

Happy Birthday, and here! here! to those who have received awards!!
I wish I were no so busy myself so that I could participate in the T5 project. As it is, I will just have to enjoy the fruits of the labor of all of those involved.

Long live Traveller!

I've been playing Traveller, off and on, for 31 years.

I'm such a raving fanboi, I bought Marc's wine-making (and other) books off of ebay...plus a brand new Hardbound "The Traveller Book" to go with my other TTB's that i have on hand for new players in the spare books to give to players pile.

Last week, I passed out 5 copies of Mongoose Traveller (From buy it now, various vendors on Ebay) at the local university, it was well received, people are starting to generate characters for my upcoming Homebrew MTU "OrionArm:5440" game, asking to be Scouts, Pirates, and Merchants.

This afternoon, I picked up Mongoose MERCENARY at the FLGS. Liking it. Last week, I picked up 760 patrons..loved that one.

Congrats on T5, certainly, I'll purchase it, when it is finished.

:)

Call me an old "stick-in-the-mud".

Go ahead, I won't mind.

I have my LLBs (a wide assortment of them, and colored ones from Paranoia Press), and my Judges' Guild sectors & accessories, and they suit me just fine.

No T4, absolutely no Mega, and TNE is banned from my awareness.

Might, maybe, get something for Riki-tiki-Trav, but doubtful. No GT, and no Hero-Trav either..

So I voted "No, I won't T5".

Sorry, Marc... loved (and still do) the original game, but everything was changed so much, so often, that I just "said no" once I could afford to get anything new.

I still play, and have introduced new players to the game, but "I knows what I likes, and I likes what I knows".

I sympathize a great deal. One of the reasons or group quit playing (other than getting involved in real life situations; girlfriends, wives, kids, careers, and what not), was because there were no more adventures being published.

Oh sure, there were all kinds of rulebooks and rules supplements, but no adventures :(

We had to make up our own after a while. Which is okay, because that's what Traveller was meant for. But even our fertile immaginations ran dry after a while.

I'm not really sure if I'm going to do T5 or not. I really don't know. But, I hope the game continues to fluorish.

I'm one of the CT 'old faithfuls', and MT and TNE came out during my 'missing years', but I've bought loads of post-CT stuff to mine for ideas and houserules and I see no reason to stop now. I'm not an avid 'must buy everything Traveller' collector, but I knows what I likes, too, and I likes most things Traveller. Bring it on.
Oh, and many happy returns, thanks again for the game.

After giving it some thought, I probably won't buy T5 for the same reason it's unlikely I'll ever buy MGT; I've already invested in three different versions of the game and have smatterings of two others. Unless T5 offers something truly new and exciting, it's just not worth the additional investment to me.
