Need Folks Who Can Do Deckplans!

I'm looking for folks who can do Traveller deckplans similar to the old style. I know Campaign Cartographer can do a pretty good job, but I just don't have the time to get past the learning curve.

So, if anyone out there considers themselves pretty good with CC (hell or anything else that you can use to create good quality deckplans), please let me know and send me a sample of what you can do. Send them to deckplans @TravellerRPG.com (remove the space before the @ symbol).

Hunter, please will you keep us informed of how your search is progressing.

I used to do a fair number of deckplans on paper back in the days when High Guard was the current system, and I am currently in the process of learning how to use CC2. So I might be able to offer you something at a later date if you don't get what you want from someone else sooner.

Speaking of Campaign Cartographer, I bought it a while back but don't use it much because the documentation was so piss-poor. Is there a better tutorial out there? I put it on the shelf and gave up.

Rodina I too think that the CC2 user manual is a pain, (now the but) but it is not a manual it is a tutorial. Do each tutorial starting from the first one and do each one all the way to the last one and you will have learned the program. Please don't think that I like this thing I would much perfer a real manual as well. Give it anouther try, you may discover you like it.

I'm in pretty much the same life-pod as Virushi, though I have also used CC2 for fantasy mapping, just not sci-fi mapping. Once I get T20, I'd be happy to lend a hand (since I no longer own the ton of CT stuff I used to, and am spending most of my loose cash on Kalamar and, soon, T20).

One thing, can you send them to me in a format OTHER than CC2 files. It seems I have an older version (5 something) and it won't open the newer (v6) files.

I used to do quite a few deckplans in a jaunty little program called AutoCAD. What file formats can you accept? (I'm assuming that you need something that can be linked and/or embedded.)

I'll ask here if my .pdf file is readable or not, and if it is then Darth Sillyus can have a look for a .pdf file converter. Mine is for Mac and it's free/share ware called PrintToPDF and it works great for me. Basically anything you can print can be 'printed' to it instead and saved as standard .pdf file. I expect there must be similar utilities out there for all you poor PC users

For things like AutoCAD or other programs that will likely output something I can't open, probably the best way to send it to me is to either output it as a high resolution image if possible. (TIFF is probably best, though JPG would suffice just to give me a taste of what you can do).

Failing that, print it out and scan it back as an image would work if you have a scanner.

Please though, ZIP the file before sending images to reduce the size. I can handle any size file but I'd rather not download 25Mb image files if I can avoid it.

Yes PDF format is perfectly fine. Had no problems opening it or printing it out.

I have to say get him! If he's already involved, kindly roundfile my pitiful excuse for a deckplan and forget it ever existed. He hasn't done a deckplan per se, yet, but between his modelling and interiors he's almost there. My work is in the same spirit as Scarecrovv's regarding attention to detail of scale, strict adherence to the design rules of the game (for the most part, I figure part of the bridge tonnage is 'other stuff', he uses 2% for the bridge but then makes room for the same 'other stuff', looks like we come out the same in the end) but my skill (total lack of to be specific) with computer graphics couldn't hold a pixel to his work if I worked at it for the rest of my natural life. Your only difficulty will be getting him to do a wedgie scout (though he does profess to like Ted Lindsey's take on it, so there is some hope, Ted knows and appreciates Scarecrovv's work too, so maybe he will be inspired and he'll do your deckplans. I do love Ted's work too btw). Anyway I'm really depreseed now about my lack of ability to present my vision, but thrilled to have discoverd an artist who shares my vison AND has the loads of skill and talent to actually make it a reality. Thank you very much Scarecrovv!

As for Deckplans - I'd love to give it a bash. I'm kinda busy with real life and the Scout model at the mo, but if it's not too complex I can have a look. I'm especially interested in original designs and ideas.

i just finished the thread.....i am a sci-fi/traveller fan.....this is the kind of ship i have dreamed of for years. i just can not say enough good things about your work.....it would be useless even to try.....looking for updates and more of your work. may i try to print it?......will useit for myself. My limited artistic talent (poor as it is) still creates far better pen/pencil sketches and technical drawings than I can manage on any of the programs I can afford with the limited time I have to devote to the learning curves required (in my experience).

I've tried a number of programs and find the inexpensive easy to use ones lacking the detail and design elements I want; while the ones that can do what I want are either too much money or just too technical to jump right in. If the manual is several hundred pages, or I need a seperate monitor just for the tools palette, or I can't get through the tutorial inside of a couple hours, well, pass. I have better things to do with my time. Anyway, I do use a simple (antique) program for my deckplans (usually after a rough sketch) just to be able to quickly change elements and print it out for play and that's good enough for me
