New Psi Powers

Jame

SOC-14 5K
These new psionic powers are intended to add a bit more flavor to your psi-using campaigns. I may go through the LBBs, MT and the TNE core book and make a complete list someday, too. Any additions are very welcome!

Self (aka Awareness): Control Disease, Control Toxin

Telepathy: Sense Life, Sense Friendship/Hostility, Sense Psions, Telecontrol (aka puppeteering), Mindwipe, Sleep

Telekinetics: Cryokinesis (includes Cold Control, Freezing Projection and Freezing Touch), Pyrokinesis (includes Flame Control, Fiery Projection and Flame Touch),Electrokinesis (includes Electricity Control Lightning Projection and Electric Touch), Air Control (includes Air and Sonic Projections), Levitation/Flying, TK Shield

Senses: Clairvoyance, Clairaudience, Psychometry, Precognition, Postcognition, Personal Location, Tracking, Homing

Arcana/Special: Control Disease in Another, Control Toxin in Another, Control Healing in Another, Computer Empathy, Matter Alteration

Jame, you should check out White Wolf's Trinity. It has 112 powers in it. Unfortunately, the d20 version treats them like Cleric spells in D&D. It should be a skills an feats system.

The ideas are cool, but where's the rules for their use? Range Table? Description? PsiSTR cost?

Jame, you could make this multi-discipline.
e.g. The PSI skill "Control Toxin in Another" requires the Self PSI skill "Control Toxin" and the Telepathy PSI skill "Sense Life"

</font>[/QUOTE]Which is what I'm thinking; the reason that it's "Arcana" is because it requires skill in two other disciplines before you can learn it.

Also, I'm thinking that the quest to learn new disciplines - yes, even "Arcana" disciplines" - would be a good basis for a minicampaign or subplot.

New powers: "Illusion" under Telepathy, which is basically sending illusions into the mind of another (or the minds of several others); the cost would be equal to projective telepathy for one and up from there by one per extra person and another one by emotional state. "Sound Control" under Arcana (requires Air Control and Projective Telepathy), which is controling and generating sounds which are not produced by your own body, resulting in words, phrases and sounds that seem to come from another source (i.e. gunfire coming from a tree or a chipmunk giving a physics lecture [!]).

Some good ideas there, Jame, I might borrow a couple. It has my 'rule proliferation' hackles rising, though - I'd allow your illusion and ventriloquism 'powers' under 'send surface thoughts' anyway; "These are not the droids you are looking for."

Well, consider these new powers as potential expansions on current powers.

Here are a number more, borrowed from a pair of D&D books (yes, I admit it):

Telepathy: Speak with Animals, Animal Empathy, Plant Empathy, Nature Empathy, Find Life, Attraction, Revulsion, Daze, Demoralize, Bolster (the opposite of Demoralize), Temporary/Greater/Permanent Insanity, Restore (mental) Balance, Restore Sanity, Impair Other's Learning, Improve Other's Learning, Join Minds, Meld Minds (which is 2 levels greater than Join), Psychic Vampirism (raiding another's mind to strengthen one's own self), Enthrall (a prerequisite for Vampirism), Learn From Another's Mind, Summons (sends out a call which is resisted on 11+ of INT and is a prerequisit for Enthrall)

Self: Wood Skin, Stone Skin, Metal Skin, Breath Holding, Improved Breath Holding, Greater Breath Holding, Retain Liquids, Retain Nutrients (greater than Liquids), Alter Own Shape, Boost All Attributes, Boost Intellect (I figure that any PSI mental increase under Traveller would be directed to INT because EDU is more "rigid"), Improved Brawling, Increase Melee Damage (gives melee combat better modifiers), Increase Accuracy (makes you better with ranged weapons), Increase Learning

Telekinesis: Energy Control, Energy Wave, Throw Acid, Spew Acid, Acid Wave, Concussion, Concussion Wave (both need Air Control), Impair Another's Breath, Impair Another's Biology, Lesser Flight, Improved Flight, Greater Flight

Arcana: Air Pocket (acts as a vacsuit for PSI + 1d6 min. per PSI rating), Alter Other's Shape, Create Smoke, Infect Other, Greater Scrying, Boost Another's Attribute, Boost Another's Attributes, Dispel Psionic Effects, Trace Teleport, Skate on Surface

This one's for Plankowner.

Death Touch: Arcana, Requires Telepathy and Awareness, PSI of A+, full strength required, contact ranged (touch based; contact required). Resisted by a roll of 12+, INT and/or PSI of 11+ gives a DM of +1 per point over 11.

My favorite wacko psi skill I came up with was machine interface: the psionic ability to link up computers and become one with them.

Yes, I have that as "computer empathy" in my first post. Indeed, I lifted it straight from the TNE core rules book.

The people in my second campaign in the 80's liked it, though none of them managed to roll it on the wild talent table. I also had animal telepathy separate from normal telepathy. The one rule I came up with I had back off of was telepathic compatibility. That was where psis of different races or language couldn't automatically telepathically communicate or spy on unless they were familar with the being's language.

Jame,

You might be interested in THIS.

It's a d20 House Rules pdf on Psionics. The author wrote this for a campaign he calls Sleeping Imperium, but it's a D&D 3E setting, set in the future. It's kind of a mix between scifi and D&D.

There's a lot of work in this thing, and many of the psionic feats can translate directly to T20.

-The Citizen.

Other wild psi talents were Empathic Healing( regenerating wounds on others); Sensorpath: Boosts your sensor equipment; Weaponsmith: boosts your weapon skill; Disable: A form of telekinesis that causes malfunctions; Techneer: A telekinetic ability that 'heals' machines-the flip side of disble; Biolepathy: Telepathy with animals; Puppeteer: Ability to psionically 'possess' another; Invisibility: Just like the Droyne ability.

Most of them pretty wacked, came up with them back in the 80's during a post-game wind down.

I use CT/MT, but I might take a look. (I mildly dislike the D20 system for the classes and feats system because it seems to be inflexible to me. That didn't prevent me from raiding a few D&D books for psi powers though!)
