It is amusing that 'raving Mongoose fanboy' has seemingly replaced 'raving Grognard' as the catch-all insult amongst Traveller fans.

I'd like to suggest "gooseboy" or "fangoose" as a replacement for the somewhat clumsy term "Mongoose fanboy".

For some reason it makes me think of one of those Spanish Folk Dancers in a loud outfit making exaggerated gestures and striking poses.

I have just this week learned about the Classic Traveller re-do and have visited their forum and this one to learn more. What I have seen has made me sad. I woudl think there would be a desire to work together not spend so much energy hacking each other.

I dunno. I mean the Fangeese are so open-minded and tolerant of criticism.

Personally, I have nothing against Mongoose as a company. I was underwhelmed by their version of Runequest, but they are hardly the first game company to underwhelm me. Perhaps unfairly, they are being tarnished by the behavior of some of their fanboys.

I lurked about these forums, and the Mongoose forums, for a few days after learning of the Mongoose offering and the alleged ties to T5 and CT, eager to learn more. I chose to register on this forum only. There is a great wealth of meaningful and friendly discussion on these boards, for all versions of Traveller (including Mongoose Traveller). Heated debate and “flaming” are quickly quelled by the Moderators, or maturely self-regulated. On the other hand, the Mongoose forums, for whatever reason, seem to breed hatred and contempt for any constructive critique or difference in opinion. (Perhaps there is a difference in the average age of the members, but that is just an instinctive guess, and certainly only my opinion.)

Oh, and I assure you, there is nothing wrong with my ‘upbringin’.

As for the hate/anger, don't worry about it too much. It's typical Traveller fandom in action.

It's more along the lines of siblings fighting with one another. It can get loud and obnoxious, but no one gets bloodied up too much...usually. :smirk:

The amount of petty snarkiness coming from more or less a single source on 2 or 3 threads here pretty much exceeds any nastiness that has gone on in the Mongoose boards.

You realise you're effectively smearing other members of this forum.
