New TNE forum opened

Zparkz

SOC-12
Traveller Freeport has opened a new TNE forum for those who are interested. It isn't quite new, but it is available for those who like to discuss finer aspects of the TNE universe and/or rules.

There isn't much activity there at the present, but I hope it will pick up in the future.

The url is www.travellerfreeport.com/yabb

You are all welcome.

Why not just use the existing Avenger TAS forums instead? They are the home of TNE-era material now, and they do have TNE forums of their own.

Because not everyone wants to associate with the bullies that chased people off the TNE Yahoo Group.:(

Nor does everyone want to play 1248. (Not bad IMO but it is not TNE):)

Some people like to talk about the ruleset rather than setting. :smirk:

Best of luck with the forum Zparkz, I'll be dropping over.

Wow, that's a completely false, baseless and ridiculous statement. Avenger weren't responsible for that. I'm on that list and was watching all that happen (and voted for the restoration of a TNE focus, I was sick of all of Peter Gray's gun crap too), and while people from Avenger were involved in the arguments they were absolutely not "responsible for chasing people off" and they didn't "bully" anyone at all. Avenger also didn't start the poll that resulted in the split, and ultimately it was down to the moderator's decision based on everyone's input.

But if you want to stay away because of a completely false misrepresentation of what actually happened then I guess it's your loss.

They've published TNE adventures you know. And have a TNE section.

Nothing stopping you from doing that.

Sorry, but I won't... there's too many little forums around, I'd rather go where most people are so I can have the widest discussions and get the most varied opinions.

I do frequent the Avenger forums at times, just lurking though. That forum centers around the Avenger products mainly, which by the way is more or less rules-less.

What I try to do is to focus on the setting in its self independent of product and the original TNE rulesett which do have some followers. I have never been to the Yahoo group so I can't comment on that, but I got the impression of it being a mail-list and not a forum. The advantage of a forum is that it is divided into topics so you don't need to read or receive messages about topics that does not hold any importance for you.

I do not expect that my forum will be a big hit or take over other forums. I frequent this forum quite a lot because I like many of the discussions, however I find it lacking in the TNE department.

That said, the forum may change as I do anticipate what T5 holds, however from the stuff I received in the mail yesterday I am not sure I'll switch completely, but adapt it for TNE use (setting and/or rules) as I find fit.

I agree with Droptrooper that TNE 1248 doesn't feel like TNE, but it does give a few good ideaas about how my TNE campaign could develop if it runs long enough.

The whole TNE list/Peter Gray issue was debated to death elsewhere.

As already noted, it was not 'the Avenger people' who started the matter, opened the poll or even participated all that much in the debate. Feel free to associate with who you like, or not, but please do not spread outright untruths about Avenger Enterprises.

Nobody from Avenger drove anyone off a list (Gray actually left because the mods of that list, who are not part of Avenger or even associated with us) asked him to tone down his off-topic posts.

It may suit your agenda for Avenger Enterprises to be the bad guys here but we are not.

Thanks.

I've no wish to re-open a debate that was (wisely) closed by the mods a while back.

Don't mind the naysayer(s) Zparkz, another port is fine, the Traveller 'verse is big enough for many. Good luck with the site, fair thrust and safe jumps :)

Indeed. As Mongoose say - 'Free stuff is OKAY'.

Well, it's better than okay. If TNE is going to stay around it needs support.

Thanks for the support far-trader. I hope some will find the forum useful.
TNE as a setting will need support, and I will lend a hand much as I can. My site and forum will be a aprt of this effort. Hopefully over the next few months I will add more content.

The HIWG-CD and a slightly updated Gvurrdon Sector Campaign Book is up. As my own gaming campaign moves towards a TNE setting, I'll probably add more content supporting that setting.

I have corrected what I could find of spelling erros 8it is bound to be more though), updated the starship I designed in it and a few other items. basically it is more or less the same file that was available at my old site at Downport/Pocket Empires.

Note that the campaign book isn't canon, it is just a collection of my documents on Gvurrdon when I was the HIWG analyst/developer for that sector.

When FFE (Marc) finally releases the TNE CD, that will be a boon for TNE discussions. It's hard to have questions or comments when I don't have the rules - and E-Bay prices are just crazy.

Don't forget everything is available at RPG Drivethru (except Vampire Fleets) though I suspect it will be better value to wait for the CD-ROM. The extras are usually well worth it. At one point the rulebook was available for free for a limited time, you never know it may happen again.:)

The problem with getting just 'some' of it is that Traveller conversations (here at least) quickly range through every official, unofficial and fanzine source ever published. Just having the Core Rules for TNE would hardly be worth the effort. ;)
