Laugh if you want, but I have a lot of space orks, and would like to get some use out of them in Traveller gaming.

I was thinking of using something moderately tongue-in-cheek, like calling them "O.R.C.s" for "Operational Reaction Clones" or "OverRun Clones" or comething equally silly, but I'm curious if anyone has ever statted space orks for Traveller.

High-level overview here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ork_(Warhammer_40,000)

Orks are green-skinned, a side effect of their blending on a genetic level with fungi ... Orks are genetically engineered for combat, and quite efficiently so. They are extremely strong, and their squat bodies can withstand immense punishment... Orks are quite capable of having limbs (or even heads) freely chopped and swapped onto a different body, and surviving the experience to fight again... Orks seem to live longer the more powerful they are, such as with Ghazghkull possibly being hundreds of years old... Ork behavior is dominated by the Waaagh!, a gestalt psychic field they generate that affects the Ork psyche, as it allows Orks to instinctively recognize who is 'bigga' and therefore in charge.

Spooky.

So, they're a genetically engineered chimera between something humanoid (perhaps even human) and a sort of semi-undifferentiated fungus-creature. Presumably, the fungus has an anagathic property that is stimulated through violence. They have a psionic skill that detects Ork Charisma.

It was good enough for Games Workshop...

Obviously, a Traveller version wouldn't be quite as nuts as a 40K ork, but still...

Keep in mind: GW lost their Traveller license while working on the initial release of 40K... the initial 40K Rogue Trader was very much a mashup of the Warhammer world's races and Traveller's tropes...

So, yeah, they could easily be as over the top as W:40K's Orks. Given the lack of demon-infested warpspace, possibly even more dangerous, because psionics are far more dangerous in the 40K setting than in Traveller.

No orcs. Just phraints and broos. I will not admit to ducks. :D

Phraints are great! Wish I could find a 15mm insect-man to fill the roll. I loved the old Archive 25mm Phraint, but I no longer play in that scale.

I always thought the piggy-looking alien monsters at the beginning of Return of the Jedi were Lucas' "borrowing" of the classic RPG image of orcs. (I cannot remember the names of SW aliens, sorry.)

Look at the Fantasy RPG stuff. There's stats for orcs in there (along with some other stuff you can convert).

Gammoreans, at least according to the RPG and other books.

John Scalzi used the "green skin" schtick in his Old Man's War series... as part of the genetic alterations to the new bodies the soldiers were issued, they had a limited chlorophyll capability, to increase their survivability in low-food situations.

Looks like your ORCs got the same mod!

Someone a while back discussed using goblins as a race ... you could probably find it with a quick search of the board.
