PELTAST CLASS LIGHT COMMANDO CARRIER

The Peltast class ships were designed for TL 13 Reserve Fleets to carry small units of Marines into action, either to board crippled ships or to raid deep space facilities or world surfaces. They are built on a 300-ton flattened sphere streamlined hull with fuel scoops and purifier installed. It has Jump-2, Maneuver-2 and Power plant-2. The hull is armored to factor 3. It holds 66 tons of fuel, allowing 1 Jump-2 and 30 days of power plant operation. It has a Model-2 computer.
For armaments it has a double beam laser turret, a triple sand caster turret and a triple missile turret, with an 8-ton magazine for additional missiles.
The vessel has a standard crew of 8 (pilot, navigator, medic, 3 gunners and 2 engineers) who are housed in 5 staterooms.
The remaining 110 tons of hull space can be configured in several ways:

1) Troop Lander: this version is used to land a strike force of infantry directly on a target. It carries 40 assault troops in 20 staterooms, 15 tons are set aside for troop equipment, there are 10 low berths for critical casualties and there is a 10-ton medical bay.
2) Tank Lander: this version is meant to land a mechanized force directly on a world surface. It carries 6 10-ton vehicles (typically grav tanks) and 18 crewmen in 10 staterooms. There is 10 tons set aside for cargo.
3) Cold Carrier: This version is meant to carry a larger force of troops to reinforce a beachhead on a world or re-man a prize ship or captured installation. 100 troops are carried in Low berths, a troop commander, 4 troops and 4 medics are housed awake in 5 staterooms. There is a 10-ton medical bay and a 20-ton gear locker. A further 10-ton area is set aside for troop marshalling and some additional gear storage.
4) Drop Ship: This version is meant to deliver a 30 man unit of jump troops from orbit to a world surface by meteoric assault. 30 drop troops are carried in 15 staterooms, there are 5 capsule launchers and space for 30 drop capsules in ready storage. There is a 10-ton medical bay and 10 low berths for casualties, and a 15- ton gear locker.
 
These ships were created for reserve fleets and are now considered below Imperial standards, mostly because of their low drive capability, sacrificed for troop carrying capacity. Large numbers were made and extensively used both for Marine raids and for megacorporation security, so the 20% price discount applied. Surplus vessels of this class are very common and are available through the Starship Acquisition Program to Imperial citizens of good character and reputation for about 50% of the original discounted price.
