I can almost see doing a story around this. What do you think of the major character(s)? Still happy with excess or tired? On the way up, or down? Alone, or always with friends?

A canon(?) explanation would be someone who bought into the Authentic Movement.

But remember, this re-creation of dawn-of-the-Solmani-Space-Age living is filtered through over 36 centuries of historical distortion.

This is an utterly sincere attempt to re-create something believed to be the highest form of artistic and cultural sophistication of its era.

The character would be seeking out similar ancient Terran cultural artifacts to perfect his creation -- relics that survived the Disco Suppression.
