Actually there is a sale going onright now for like 2 more hours. 10 am EST it ends. The GM's day at Drivethrurpg.com. Many Jon Brazer Enterprises and Mongoose titles are 25% off. Grab em quick. You've got 2 hours.

EDIT: My bad. it ends at 6pm EST, that means you have 7-1/2 from right now. Here's a link to Mongoose's sale items and here's a link to Jon Brazer Enterprises' sale items.

Pretty crazy, ain't it? AFAIAC, you can go a long ways with just the core book, supply catalog, and flavor with characters from a few of the books.

And yet, somehow, I have a ton of these crazy things. To mongoose's credit, I was disappointed with Mercenary and High Guard (standbys for me in the classic traveller world), but suitable impressed me with Agent, Psion, and the supply catalog that I felt encouraged to by more.

When I read the post, I had 8 minutes. But I nabbed 3 books. 1 already had in print (scoundrel, because I like the PDF so I can print out the ships and laminate them), and 2 I didn't even know were out yet (Robots and Cybernetics).

Mongoose are certainly chucking them out at pace. Its a bit tragic, I feel, that my beloved Traveller is now a cheap rpg line full of lousy illustrations and useless rules. Buts thats progress for you.

Yes those LBBs were little gems, some hit, some miss. But they never missed by much did they?

I never got Mega Traveller or MM Traveller 4 either, I was too busy getting drunk at Poly during the time they were around. I actually took a Traveller hiatus from the time the Robots book came out (only one I never got) until around two years ago. So I got pretty much stuck on CT and never tried other versions. But although I have nothing to compare the MGT stuff to I do feel that its cheap and rushed from what material I have seen and heard from forums.

I originally got MGT because I thought it was a great opportunity to compile all the old CT rules changes etc into one modern document. But it soon became apparent to me that rather than correcting, compiling and improving the Traveller I love, MGT just introduced loads of new errors and introduced modern complex stuff like cybernetics and high tech weaponry that I just wasnt interested in - I actually like the fact that TRaveller combat uses spears and swords alongside laser rifles.

Glad I managed to get rid of my MGT books in the end. The only ones I might look are the Starports and Campaign Guide books but I am not raising any hopes, I know what I would like to see in each and the starports book would have to be at least 75% high quality plans and illustrations for me to consider buying it as well as being relevant to CT. Cant see Mongoose doing that based on recent books which are almost all writing.

Yep. I even heard that MGT is putting a out a 2nd set of "Vehicle books" as the 1st ones were a bomb. I won't be buying the 2nd version without 1st reading.

Sounds like version 2 is alot like the version I use at home. Simple 'Book 2-style' vehicle design, which we've never had before. For some reason designing vehicles has ALWAYS been more difficult in all versions of Traveller than building a bloody starship!!!!

I'd have to see the system before I could claim it is any good. If it was slightly less complex than the MT one it would be better than the abortion that was the 1st set.

The 1st set of Mongoose rules? Agreed? Too complex, plus didn't really work. Go to GURPS Vehicles for perfection + complexity = headache + one beautifully created vehicle per month of evenings.

By MT I meant Mega. MGT's 1st set was just plain broken and nonsensical. I would buy something that didn't require a recursive formula to figure out. Don't want something as complex as GURPS.

What about Striker?

Striker is my preferred vehicle construction set, as LBB5 is my preferred ship constructor. They have a similar complexity, IMO.

I found MT and FFS way too complex and LBB2 and Striker Helicopters way too simple.

The only other part of Striker I didn't like was the Aircraft, for the opposite reason, as it required too many iterative recalculations to get the components to work together.

I ended up creating my own design sequence for helicopters, but I never got around to fixing the Aircraft design sequence - one day, perhaps.

MT design is the same level of complexity as Striker. In a few places, they simplified it... it's just that they moved from HG to striker level detail for ships.
