Psychohistory Rules?

Anyway, I can certainly just make it up, but if there is a good set of rules on how it works, how accurate it is, and what sorts of uses it has in the Third Imperium, I'd like to use it. Does anyone know if such a thing exists?

Just to drag this discussion back on topic.

If you are seriously thinking about rules for manipulative psychohistory, I'd would strongly recommend the book Transhuman Space: Toxic Memes. Much of the description of how psychohistory works and how it makes changes to the larger populations maps pretty exactly onto how memetics works.

You will need to do some translation of the rules from both the GURPS to CT perspective and the Transhuman Space assumptions to the Traveller universe.

TJonesLo,

While THS is most definitely not CT, I couldn't agree with your suggestions more.

Besides, I've already soiled this thread by mentioning other rules sets! ;)

Have fun,

... Indeed. Take a look at the Toxic Memes THS book, for it is good and full of useful ideas :)

For the sake of clarity: the only Hiver sourcebook that includes sections on Hivers killing each other is TNE AoR.

Gruffty,

While AoR is the only soucebook that explicitly states that the Hivers murder each other, the other scourcebooks - IMEHO - strongly imply that they do.

Re-read AM:7 and pay attention to the tentacle-wringing over all those "deficiency diseases" the Hivers routinely die from. Tech Level 15 and they haven't invented the multi-vitamin yet? ;)

Every other Major and Minor Race commits murder. Hell, animal ethnologists have watched chimps, killer whales, lions, and scores of others commit murder. Suggesting that the Hivers somehow do not is far too pollyannish for my tastes.

Have fun,
Bill
