I wish I could help, during one of my forays into a local used book/music/computer/magazine store I came across 15, okay 17 2 being duplicates, Challenge magazines. Number 35 is the closest I can come.

#39 is actually the issue you're looking for. Are you looking to buy a copy or just ask questions from someone who has it? In the former case I can't help you, in the latter I probably still can't (since I typically read and post from work), but go ahead and ask your questions and I'll try to get answers (or give somebody else with their trav-library closer at hand a chance to).

Well I don't need the issue, just would like to know in what level of detail Ral Ranta was discussed. If it's only a paragraph or two, no big deal, if a longer article, I'd love to get a scan of that (fair use!).Originally posted by T. Foster:

Canadian copyright law allows reproduction of out-of-print information "for research purposes", but COTI (understandably) looks down on this.

I too, labor in the fertile field of the Hinterworlds. Challenge issues #39, #44 and #52 have relevant information on the sector, I got my copy at the Traveller Trader. But if you’re expecting a Behind the Claw treatment you may be disappointed. #39 features lovely subsector by subsector maps (with UPP’s) of the Hinterworlds and a two page spread of the whole sector (mmm, Traveller centerfold). The summary of the history and politics of the region is relatively brief. There’s lots of stuff for the Referee to fill in himself. There’s not much canon to rub up against here, and that a good thing. I say, make it up! That’s what I’m doing. I’ve got my little homemade (home-edited) map and database rolling. My word is law!

Well, I'm definitely off the beaten path. My campaign is set in Vendtup/Old Expanses and Nullia/Hinterworlds, circa 1085. False War? What False War? We're too busy worrying about the Nullian Technical League that is coalescing in the subsector, and constantly fighting off those pesky Solomanis. After some incidents on 1316 G-R and an unplanned stay on an asteroid mining station at 1313 Lu, the party have come into possession of mysterious derelict vessel and are sorting themselves out at 1616 Thanas. I'm hoping to put up some new Hinterworlds stuff before going on holiday in a week's time, including the TNS stuff resulting from player actions and some world maps for Darvis subsector - I'll come back here with the linky when I do. It's pretty canon-compliant, except that I've inserted a human minor race on 1315 Arkon and fiddled with the ownership details of 1313 Lu nearby.
The Challenge material is just enough to get things going but sketchy enough to give the enterprising ref plenty of room to manoeuvre - perfect!

More coincidence! I’m planning to start things off on Lu, as well. Instead of being governed from Arkon, Lu is an outpost Aquiar (HW1210), just coreward. My Arkon is a troubled, inward looking world despite having the Bruia Diagonal running through it.
So far, I’m but my efforts into the macro level. I’m almost done with a big map of the sector and I’ve got the UPP’s into a Access DB. Like most randomly generated CT UPP’s some of the resulting worlds aren’t very coherent. So I’m slowly editing some of the worst offenders. Soon I’ll ready for the system-level type stuff.
One I get my map into PDF form, I’ll put it on the web. You’re welcome to use it, but you’ll have to put up with the changes that I make. As I said, before; my word is law!
