Ram Grenade vs Battledress

Froze up first time around, re submitted, ended up with 2... Could a mod delete please?

EDIT again; I think a mod deleted the duplicate as I was deleting the text in this one (my bad). I can't remember my wording from before but vasically I have forgotten how this works.

If a RC marine in AV6 Battledress is hit by a ram grenade (C2,B(doesn't matter armour will soak) Pen Value 33C) which value is used the anti vehicle (33C-6AV =27 dice of damage) or just the concusion damage (so 2d where hit and 2d/7 to all locations)?
Anti Vehicle means a lot more deadly than plasma, concussion is wimpy ('cept to the head) so is a big difference.

The fact that the 33C can take out early APC's means I'm leaning towards first explaination, but I'm not sure.

Help?

After some more thought I think I would go with a house rule. If the 33C beats the AV (it will) then I'm thinking of the concussion damage +2 dice shrapnel to the location and concussion again over the other locations.

This way it is a solid attack vs battledress(ie it can penetrate and hurt), while still leaving room for Plasma as the weapon of choice(assuming use of the updated plasma).

The way I remember it:

  1. You roll a hit location for the round (if it actually hits) and apply 33-6 = 27D6 damage to the location. I've looked through the TNE rules and can't find this. I could be remembering it from a Twilight 2.0 supplement. FF&S calculates a separate damage value for KEAP rounds, so I'm not sure.
  2. You apply concussion:
    • Roll concussion dice.
    • If in direct contact, roll a hit location and apply the full value to it. and
    • Divide by 7 and apply to each location for PCs. Apply directly to hits for NPCs. (For those within 5m, progressively halve for each extra 10m.)
  3. Roll for frag.

It's interesting to note that there doesn't appear to be any benefit from body armor against concussion attacks.

About step 1, thats the way I remember doing it too. TNE says that dmg dice convert to penetration against vehicles, but does explicitly say that the reverse is also true. I didn't have T2K at the time, so I think I just inferred this from the dice-pen conversion.

Looking back it just seems far to high, compared to Plasma, but then again were talking about a 4cm round penetrating and exploding inside a human body. (though I had assumed it explodes in contact with the armour and uses the energy generated to penetrate, so leaving concusion + shrapnel???)

But cheers for the thoughts. Anybody know any TNE/T2K designers???

Ah, that's where it was. I knew I'd seen it somewhere in TNE.

Well, you get the concussion and burst anyway, but the 4cm HEAP (most likely for 33C pen) warhead is introducing the character to the Monroe effect in an intimate fashion. There's a big explosion on your armor that is followed by a jet of molten metal being pushed at high speed through the armor and body. This is the pen and hence damage dice. This is also likely to kill a character before you get to C and B. Think plasma going off on the armor face and you can see why AT weapons are the only true PC killers.
