I know in all my RPGs, I use lots of media, not just images and maps (Though I make extensive use of them) but sounds, background music from my MP3 library, even lighting and props, when available. Makes for mood, if nothing else.
Imagination is still key, and communication goes both ways. However good the Referee is, s/he isn't going to think of EVERYTHING, and players often will come up with brilliant plans, but then won't convey them to the Ref before trying to execute them, then get angry when the plan doesn't work because it depended on some (presumed) minor detail that the Ref completely forgot about or never thought of to begin with.
