Scout's Honor adventure run through (Spoilers Warning)

Originally posted by Supplement Four:

Note that, at this point in the story, the GRENDEL emerged out of jumpspace over a day ago.

It was 16 hours, round trip, to the gas giant, including the skimming time. The X-Boat transfer took 4 hours. And, we didn't even count the time it took to rendezvou with Drake's lifeboat at the beginning of the story.

Fatigue will be scratching at the crew had they not rested, but I'm assuming, during the long trips, that time was spent sleeping and resting. They had time to do it, and they knew what they were about to face.

I'm forgetting Drake. He's so insistent about helping his comrades that I'm sure he'll go on the boarding party.

That makes for a boarding party of four. Those I mentioned earlier and...

Drake Edwards. Laser Carbine. PowerPack. TL 9 Long Range Comm. (Total wt = 9.5 kg).

Longe reminds the other three boarders, privately, that he doesn't trust Edwards. "Go check it out," he says, "But be careful that those aren't real scouts over there and he's the imposter."

Plunt, Wain, and Rouse all nod quitely at this.

BTW, for those of you coming late to the show, you can find the characters I'm using in this adventure IN THIS THREAD.

I listed all their stats and skills, and you'll see some personality quirks I wrote as well to guide me playing them all.

OK, I guess I could be helpful and list them here, in this thread too. So, before any of the shootin' starts happen', I'll list the crew members for you.

Note that these are for my version of the SCOUTS HONOR adventure, not Dan's.

And, here's the latest edition to the GRENDEL crew--

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I rolled up a character for the Navigator. But, as Traveller chargen is interesting that way, I didn't get what I set out for...but did get something cool that will fill the bill.

I attempted a Scout, but failed and submitted to the draft. As luck would have it, the character was drafted into the Navy.

Then, I tried his entire career to get Navigation, and ended up getting Pilot-2 on his last term.

Gawd, I love Traveller chargen.

So, I'll re-arrange the Captain above to be the GRENDEL's navigtor. The new-hire will be the ship's Pilot.

Here he is...

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Pilot Rieeck'arid Plunt

74ABF5

Pilot-2, Computer-2, JOT-1, Electronics-1, Vacc Suit-1, Shotgun-1

Age 34; Retired Commander of the Imperial Navy after serving four terms; TAS Member; Newly hired on as the GRENDEL's Pilot.

Morale: 11

Cliffhanger...

The X-Boat has been successfully pulled aboard the PURCELL.

Captain Longe remains with the two gunners aboard GRENDEL. He's busy putting the last middle passenger into cold sleep.

Plunt, Wain, Rouse, and Edwards are in the X-Boat.

The airlock is cycling open.

And we see....

Yes, I am. I'm enjoying it very much thank you. Please continue:)
Seriously though, as a referee, this is the type of thread I find very useful and entertaining.
Someone wrote a storyline for the 'Kursis Charter' scenario somewhere, I think on Freelance Traveller. I found that interesting partly because it was well written and partly because I was running it at the same time.

Thanks for letting me know. I enjoy these types of threads as well, when others write them, but I didn't know if I was in the minority.

Dan's writing more of a cool story, serializing his choices. My ramblings are more of a log as a GM, refereeing a game.

I'll see if I have time to post tonight...the action is starting to take place.

S4 & Dan,

I'm following this thread on a couple of different levels. One is to see how someone else played the adventure and the other is to see how someone else GM'd the adventure.

Your narratives cover both of those topics very nicely.

Have fun,
Bill

P.S. When I ran the adventure I ended up making a decision the author apparently didn't foresee. Like S4, I didn't like Drake's story much. Far too many holes. I did bow to his insistance that GRENDEL rendezvous with PURCELL however.

While travelling to the rendezvous, I thought over Drake's suggested boarding action. Given concerns for the passengers safety(1) and GRENDEL's small crew, I decided against boarding unless absolutely necessary. (I assumed a full passenger and cargo load. If a boarding party was required, I was going to canvas the passengers for volunteers.)

After rendezvousing with PURCELL and hearing their side of the story, I made a decision that the author didn't plan on. I kept PURCELL under my guns for the 20 hours the tender had said it would for the SDB the tender summoned form the port to arrive. Drake was confined to a stateroom and PURCELL was told that any attempt to power the jump drive or repair her weapons would result in GRENDEL opening fire. PURCELL grumbled a bit but agreed and went on with her other repairs. Drake's 'reaction' proved that my decision was correct.

The SDB masered PURCELL with an ETA after a few hours and PURCELL had the SDB contact GRENDEL. After a nice chat with the SDB, I handed Drake over to PURCELL and headed GRENDEL to the mainworld.

1 - Dan, you're serious about putting your passengers aboard the lifeboat and using the autopilot to take them to the farport?
