I'll echo Crow's comments on the Reavers. It just bugs me. They are almost like mad demented turkeys running around going "Gobble-Gobble!" In fact, my buddy text messages me occasionaly with "Gobble-Gobble!" and makes me laugh.

To me, it is almost impossible that Reavers could do anything but run around and kill things. Who flies the ships? Who maintains them? Do the Reavers rely on their pyschological transformation of victims to recruit techo-nerds who can fix things? How do reavers even operate guns? Don't they have a finite pool of recruits to draw from? Woulnd't they just die off if the eat people through nature attrition? These are things that bug me.

Well, the Reavers don't maintain their ships. That was made apparent in the series and the movie. They just fly them until they (the ships) stop flying. Often they fly them while their engines are leaking lethal amounts of radiation. And that kills the Reavers on board.

So they take over a ship that works and fly it till it doesn't work anymore. Fair enough. I still have a hard time believing that these people who seem little more sentient than rabid dogs can steer a starship well enough to intercept other ships with lucid, experienced pilots. They seem to be able to manage landing craft too.

I like Firefly a LOT and I appreciate that the Reavers are a plot device and their ambiance of threat is more important to the story than how they work , but it just doesn't sit well with me.

Uh, just because we see the stormtroopers doesn't mean there aren't any commanders...

To wit, the only reavers we see are the ones that are sent in to die.

So you're suggesting a sort of berzerker/stormtrooper class and a higher, command class that we have yet to see. Individuals who are Reaver enough not to get eaten and command respect from the crazies but focussed enough to pilot.

Okay I can buy that. Why don't they maintain the ships?

Aren't all of those colony worlds/moons plagued with some malady? One had some degenerative disease called Bowen's (Train Job). Perhaps in terraforming Miranda, the chemicals released induced some psychosis into the settlers; "adopted" members of humanity may not have the clarity that a native settler/reaver would. And would appear to be a berserker.

Lesser members would be simply cannon fodder as well, until they climbed the reaver hierarchy.

Just hypothesizing.

I know that Duty Free shop is the portion of the web to hawk stuff...but I came across many copies of Firefly Complete Series DVD. So I thought maybe the people here might be interested.

I would be happy to pick any up for interested parties for a $5.00 commission. Now I know this brings us close to probably the Amazon rate but it is the cheapest that I have seen it.
