Okay so here is my idea for “non-canon” rules for making shielding for T20. Before anyone asks, it is powered by a D.E.M. field (which is similar to an “S.E.P. Field” ). Actually, it is powered by the ship’s power plant. Well, before I go further I should explain that I have made two. I have made “Damper Fields” and “Deflector Shields”.
The Dampers simply just adds to the AR of the ship. The rating of this AR is based on the amount of excess power that is applied to the field as well as the tonnage of the ship. A ship can have no more than one AR of dampening for every ten tons of the ship. Also any hits that get through degrade the protection by a factor of one for every point of damage above the AR. Each point of AR protection takes an hour to “repair itself” (The D.E.M. capacitors need to recharge).
The Deflectors don’t really add to AC or AR. What they do is “deflect” incoming attacks. Like powered weapons (lasers, etc), the deflectors are powered by the ship’s power supply. The skill to use the deflectors is the “Screens” skill. Essentially it is the attackers Gunnery skill versus the defenders Screens skill. The sequence is a follows:
1) Attacker rolls his/her gunnery skill versus the ship’s AC.
2) If it misses then there is o nothing further to do.
3) If it hits then it is a contest between the attackers gunnery skill versus the defenders screens skill
That’s all that I have for now. I will refine it as I examine it more. However, any feedback that you may have would be appreciated.
