Shielding for "non- cannon" T20

Okay so here is my idea for “non-canon” rules for making shielding for T20. Before anyone asks, it is powered by a D.E.M. field (which is similar to an “S.E.P. Field” :)). Actually, it is powered by the ship’s power plant. Well, before I go further I should explain that I have made two. I have made “Damper Fields” and “Deflector Shields”.
The Dampers simply just adds to the AR of the ship. The rating of this AR is based on the amount of excess power that is applied to the field as well as the tonnage of the ship. A ship can have no more than one AR of dampening for every ten tons of the ship. Also any hits that get through degrade the protection by a factor of one for every point of damage above the AR. Each point of AR protection takes an hour to “repair itself” (The D.E.M. capacitors need to recharge).
The Deflectors don’t really add to AC or AR. What they do is “deflect” incoming attacks. Like powered weapons (lasers, etc), the deflectors are powered by the ship’s power supply. The skill to use the deflectors is the “Screens” skill. Essentially it is the attackers Gunnery skill versus the defenders Screens skill. The sequence is a follows:
1) Attacker rolls his/her gunnery skill versus the ship’s AC.
2) If it misses then there is o nothing further to do.
3) If it hits then it is a contest between the attackers gunnery skill versus the defenders screens skill
That’s all that I have for now. I will refine it as I examine it more. However, any feedback that you may have would be appreciated.

Looks good from here, but... tonnages and/or tonnage rates? Recommended prices in the order of MCr6-MCr8 per ton; double that of T-Plates and Jump Drives.

I am not sure what category it falls into but I was thinking that a 100 ton Scout would have a max of 10 AR from the dampers. Does that clarify? Either way Small ships like Scouts would be better off with deflector because they take up a gun bay the way a laser does without subtracting form a Ship's available space.

The price was the part that I hadn't figured out. However, your pricing sounds "spot on". I knew that I could count on you! Thank you! :)

No it does not clarify. I want to know how much tonnage it's gonna take...

Also, the only defenses that take hardpoints are repulsors and sandcasters (both of which are also technically offensively capable).

Yet again you point out some kinks and I thank you again. First off I suppose that I'd have to come up with what Tech level the dampers would be under (again going non canon here) and then reduce the tonnage for each TL above the minimum (like the power plants).

As for the hardpoint equation, I am thinking that the deflectors would be hardpoint like sandcasters/repulsors (again dampers and deflectors being two seperate things).

By the way I do so much enjoy bouncing ideas off of you!

Thanks.

If they are hardpoint weapons, use 1 turret slot. So are we saying
standard turret weapon: 1/3 of 1Td Turret
Heavy turret weapon: 1/2 of 2Td turret
Superheavy turret weapon 1 per 3Td turret

Say, TL12 they are a barbette
TL14, a superheavy
TL16, a Heavy
TL18, a standard?

Mounts being, say:
Factor _______ 1 __ 2 __ 3 __ 4 __ 5 __ 6 __ 7 __ 8 __ 9
# Turrets ____ 1 __ 3 __ 6 __ 9_ 15 _ 22 _ 30 __ -
__ -___
50Td Bay TL _
_ - __ - __ - __ B __ C __ E __ G __ J __ L
100Td Bay TL
_ - __ - __ - __ - __ B __ D __ F __ H __ K

Thanks.

That sounds about right. This way the "Common Traveller" can have access to deflectors but the best ones can be reserved for interstellar governments. Sort of like how the average American citizen has access to decent quality rifles but only military members get access to use M1 Abrams Tanks.

Now to tackle the Damper field equation
Mounts being, say:
Factor _______ 1 __ 2 __ 3 __ 4 __ 5 __ 6 __ 7 __ 8 __ 9
# Turrets ____ 1 __ 3 __ 6 __ 9_ 15 _ 22 _ 30 __ -
__ -___
50Td Bay TL _
_ - __ - __ - __ B __ C __ E __ G __ J __ L
100Td Bay TL
_ - __ - __ - __ - __ B __ D __ F __ H __ K
Could you explain the chart, please?

The chart: Line 1 is USP factor
Line 2 is number of mounts of turret size to get this factor
Lines 3 and 4 are what tech level bay provides this factor

Oh okay, Duh! Classic Traveller type set up right? It shows how long I have been away from CT! :). I am going to get cracking on refiing this!
