I have pointed you to this page in the wiki?

I have found that if you see a type code for a ship that doesn't come close to the HG/MT list it means either the author made up the code. Or they were referring to an existing set from the real world. There have been recent discussions where members familiar with the codes used by other navies posted them. There were some interesting additions.

Each navy has it's own, the IN being rather hidebound.

The most usual purpose is to help accounting and keeping track where everything is, especially if there is some form of formal or informal arms limitation agreement.

For a naval commander it also allows him to assess the threat to his ship, his mission, and his regional command.

Thanks for the pointer. But it still looks bad....

I've discovered the BBS software has it's own ideas of how to lay out data formatted with tabs. You need to either resort to tables (Can we have tables with no borders?) or play with adding/removing tabs until it looks right in the preview.

Cliff, bung me a copy of it in your word processor format (docx, doc, odf, etc), and I'll reformat it for use in a bb table on here and post it up for you.

Because you used the tab character. Convert them to spaces, and line them up... in a monospaced font... and THEN...

Z Experimental Hybrid [Emergency]

OK, my take on how the list might look; as with Cliff, I've gone with the three letter system, as it's more flexible. I've kept three lines as reserved, these being X, Y, and Z, for Experimental, Blank, and Prototype.

Code:
Ship Hull Designation codes

Code Primary Secondary (M) Secondary (C)

F Escort Frigate Fleet Construction
G Freighter Gunned Decoy
H Frigate Heavy Emergency
IJ Intruder Hybrid Fuel
K Orbital Complex Interface Governmental
L Scout Light Heavy
M Tanker Medical Interface
N Tug Missile Law Enforcement
O Yacht Ordnance Light
P Pursuit Military
Q Replenishment Military Auxiliary
R Rider Mining
S Speciality Non-Commercial
T Strike Private
U Tender Residential
V Utility Survey
W Transport
X Experimental Experimental Experimental
Y
Z Prototype Prototype Prototype

I think I've got it right, but obviously, you will be the better judge; it does NOT follow any current format in use by NATO, as it's major, mid, minor columns, all in alphabetical order. Thus a heavy escort destroyer might be described as an EDL.
