Ship ID - I can't figure it out

I think the answer can be found in the hard to find autobiography of Commodore Perry - "My Years With The 154th". ISBN 1489657326. Out of print of course.

On page 287, about half way down the page, he mentions an unusual Marine he met, a Lance Corporal Kilroy of the 4518th.

"Kilroy was one of those jokers, known about, but never caught red-handed. The greatest stunt he "apparently" pulled was just after the 5th Frontier War. He painted over the 154th crest on one of the gunships on my own flagship with that of the 5418th Lift Infantry while it was docked for maintenance. As an object lesson to my enginnering staff, I would not let them repaint it for more than 30 standard days. Kilroy did get his comeuppance though. My paymaster made sure that his back-pay for the year was supposedly from the 1248th Lift Infantry, a unit that does not exist, which the banks certainly pointed out to the Corporal. It took him over half a year to get it straightened out."

So, I think we have the answer to the gunboat with the 5418th crest.

Any questions?

It is, and they are aka the 4518th Lift Regiment.

The only space craft native to the regiment are:

Three 400-ton laser and missile armed SDBs as an artillery squadron for the regiment. (not quite what I'd call bombardment monitors, more like minimal ortillery/high guard command posts).

One Jump Shuttle for the SDBs (more may be transferred in if needed).

Ten 15-ton single place Fighters. And three dual place fighters available for recon.
the 400-ton ship sounds right, look at the external hatch on the right, which I assume is man-sized. about right for a 400-ton ship.

next compare the weaponry to the sketch. single turret dorsal, and two nose-thingy's (don't know what's underneath).

does the canon weaponry on the SDBs match the art or come close ?
