Ship Minatures

Hello all,

I was wondering what some recommendations for picking up ship miniatures (particularly non military) for my upcoming Traveller game. I think the primary focus is going to be on merchant type ships (far traders), possible guildships (like mining, etc..) and exploration. A few military ones would be good too.

Thanks!

Very limited I am afraid.

Ad Astra Games do a Type A1 Free Trader, Type S scouts and a pack of 5 pinnaces. There are a couple of the old RAFM minis on ebay (.com or .co.uk) right now - scout ship, shuttle. modular cutters. RAFM were definitely the best but are no longer in production. They very occasionally turn up on ebay.

Ad Astra also do some Imperial Navy and Zhodani capital ships in fleet boxes and blister packs including the Azhanti High Lightening Cruisers. But these are fleet scale.

Apart from that Ground zero games do some, that you might be able to pass off as sword-worlders, some of the merchant vessels look like modular tenders.

Some of the bab 5 ships on ebay might be disguised as traveller (centurai for zho, one of the League of non-align worlds vessels is rounded enough to pass as aslan, some of the Earth Alliance ones could pass as Solomani / swordworlders).

Some of the starfleet battles Tholians could be Imperial Navy cruisers, and some of Tholian web tender does look quite like the 30ktn common imperial transport from the rebellion sourcebook.

We could do with Mongoose making some, But I have heard the licence issue is a bit of a mess.

Cheers

Richard,
I'll check out Ad Astra. I stumbled across Brigade Models over in England. They have some nice pieces as well but not Traveller specific.

What is the issue?

BTW, RAFM subsumed some of the designs they did for TNE into their "regular" ship minis line (jump boat, Regency inspection vessel, etc.). Someone here may have a list; I'd have to go looking.

I love miniatures but a question for you.

Do they have to be miniatures? If you are not going to do actual miniature gaming (battles) couldn't you find pictures of the kind of ships you wanted, shrink them down to size of say a 3x5 card and use that as represention of what is where?

I am going to be running a large scale Braunstein-Traveller merchant game. The miniatures are needed to stand out from the background of the map. The map is going to be a 4 x 6 of Glimmerdrift or something like it.
