Ships boat dimensions

Ok I know that one square is generally 1.5 by 1.5 by 3 meters. How do I figure the outside dimensions. My players may be hired to deliever air rafts or ships boats back to coin and I got to firgure out how much clearence they have in the bay. Or is 9 meters height per square and we don't sweat the small stuff.
 
Depends on how nuts and bolts you want to get and your tolerance for approximation.

I usually accept that a vehicle (like an air-raft) will just fit within its volume on a small craft (like a ship's boat) and with minimal access around it on large craft. A small craft will just fit within its volume on a large craft.

If you're doing or using deckplans it depends on the level of detail. Do you draw a simple line for partitions or do you give it thickness depeding on the construction?

One way to strike some balance is to make your large craft deckplans using the allowable extra 20% of total volume, your small craft using just half of that (10% extra) and your vehicles* limited to the listed volume. This gives you some elbow room.

* And cargo containers.

I further break it down by area (fuel, bridge, engineering, quarters, cargo, etc.) rather then say taking the full 20% of a design and using it where needed.

So for example:

A 30 ton Ship's Boat hanger aboard a 200 ton Yacht will be drawn as a 36 ton volume.

The hanger aboard the 30 ton Ship's Boat to carry the 10 ton ATV will be drawn as 11 tons.

The 10 ton ATV itself is drawn as 10 tons.

Thanks as soon as relook at the ebon raptoruous deck plans. I be able to know if I can encourage my players to return to coin with a couple or one ships boat and replacements for the star liner and murdered gateway metals personnell.
It you want to read the story in on enworld story hour. The players were happy with some of scenes and giggled with some remarks of that sounds us.

Here is a combination formula from TNE and T4.

Length as determined using TNE:
50-dton Modular cutter
Cutter with module = 50 dtons;
Hull Rate of 50 has Base Length of 11.2 TNE p. 11.
Length Mod for a SL Cylinder Hull is 2 TNE p. 12.

Total Length = 11.2 x 2 = 22.4 m

I think that in T4 the base length of the hull is determined by using volume to get diameter or length:

T4 p. 102 Volume of 700 m^3 = 50 dtons = base diameter or length of 11 m for the complete package.

The above is based on materials I have readily available and my understanding of the two systems. Which could be out to lunch :D .

GURPS Traveller: Modular Cutter pp. 28-29
50-dton cutter dimensions: 21 ft x 21 ft x 72 ft or 6.4 m x 6.4 m x 21.95 m

Module dimensions: 21 ft x 21 ft x 42 ft or 6.4 m x 6.4 m x 12.8 m

Well it looks like I was out in left field with my post. Ah, well I had fun doing the calculations, even if they do turn out to be in a field somewhere.

Well its good to see you corrected your error in deleting it (or maybe it was just undergoing edit when I checked and it was gone, I have wondered about that process).

Anyway the bases should be well covered now
 
Evening far-trader,

The original post did disappear when I discovered that I had confused the dtons of the unloaded cutter and module. I had the original on-line saw my error and tried to edit. I got so :confused: that I deleted the darn thing made the necessary corrections, and posted the new version.

Of course my dimensions are different from GURPS Traveller, but then again I was using TNE/T4. Hopefully, I haven't confused jasper with the material.
