In-System Mining Ship J-DP20 MCr86 TL 12
Using a 400 ton hollowed out Planatoid hull, this non-starship mining vessel is designed for long term mining operations in ore rich areas. A 50 ton modular cutter attaches to an external docking point and is used either for fuel replenishment or carrying unrefined ore to the system's processing point. When attached it degrades the performance of the Maneuver drive from the standard 2G acceleration to 1G due to the extra mass. A standard crew of seven includes a pilot, engineer, cutter pilot, and 4 gunners, two of which serve double duty as an on board medic and survey specialist. There is one spare stateroom. A lab is included to analyze possible rare finds and assay for purity. A full cargo load, delivered to a point in-system, is 234 tons. Ice bins and a fuel refinery are available for on-site mining of ice asteroids for fuel. The ship cannot land.
In systems where ice is plentiful, the Modular Cutter could be replaced with a larger Cargo Shuttle for faster cargo transfers. It would have the same effect on the Maneuver drive when attached.
A variant vessel is primarily an ice miner, with the cargo hold converted into a massive fuel tank, for use in wilderness systems without significant planetary based water supplies nor gas giants.
Overtonnage: 50 (with Cutter attached)
Crew comfort: +2
Passenger demand: +0
