I'd say chances for that are just a little less slim than for Traveller.

Why can't I just get with the program and play 4E? D&D, I mean.

There are lots of folks that play GURPS. Have you tried SJ Games "Gamer Finder"?

Strangely enough it is less about the rules used than about the universe being played in. Well, some do enjoy specific rulesets more than others (I, for one, do not really like D20 for anything but single adventures) but that solely relies on personal experience. I've met more than a few peeps who did not like GURPS for various reasons. So I try finding the ruleset that suits my GM style most (which is usually a slightly streamlined version of 3rd ed. GURPS or the infamous Westend D6 system) and that the group does accept. Of lately I prefer systems (again like GURPS) with a buy-Your-character system as it helps making the characters at least roughly compareable and less (or not) random.
