Small craft and Modular cutter module storage and cost question

Howdy all,

Per CT Book 5, I'm not sure about Book 2, modular cutters and other small craft on hulls <= 1,000 tons require storage/hangar space equal to their hull size. On hulls >1,000 tons the space requirement is 1.3 x hull size. At a cost of Cr2,000 per ton of allocated storage/hangar space.

Do the modular cutter modules that are not mated to a modular cutter follow the same rules?

Have I applied the cost correctly?

Small craft are carried at their own tonnage on ships 1000 tons and under; they require tonnage equal to 130% of their mass within the hull of larger ships. The cost is Cr2,000 per ton. - HG2 p32

Depends on how you read this... And, what is inside and what is outside. Also, is it a detachable portion of the larger hull?

Generally, I would say yes to the original question, but I do see certain exceptions.

Evening Vladika,

Thanks for the rply.

My apologies for being sloppy in my summary and leaving out the words you have in bold type.

My reading of the rule, until recently, hulls less than or equal to 1,000 tons were built to fit the particular vehicle or craft being stowed. Hulls greater than 1,000 tons require 1.3% space to park the small craft and 1.1% for big craft.

The modular cutter with or without a module attached in my designs always requires 50 tons or 50 x 1.3% tons of space. The modules, until recently, I thought as a type of cargo and designated a cargo hold when possible to move the modules between the module storage location and the modular cutter bay/hangar.

Then I made a small error by thinking that I may have been out to lunch on may handling of the modules.

I am now trying to figure out which one applies.

Not in my view.

I view the modules as just another item of cargo, as long as they can be switched around - which usually requires some corridor/handling room - which is at least one cargo module's worth of volume.

Until my post with the questions on hangarage (the spell checker indicates I miss spelled the word),which has the date/time stamp indicating that it was yesterday, I usually had the modules stored below the modular cutter bay/hangar.

I think I'll go back to my original solution of having the modules carried as cargo taking up space and adding the price to the design.

In other word I am going back to keeping it simple silly. (Yeah, I known the final word is usually not silly however I decided to be nice to myself for a change.);)
