smoothing the transition to MT

Not wanting to start a flame war, how could we create a smooth transition from CT universe to a more conflict driven universe. The solution that GDW came up with was the Second Civil War but I was wondering if any others had moved their campaigns in other directions, except for the obvious method of ignoring the OTU or playing at a variant GT.

Civil war is still an option because it can follow different assumptions than from MT. It could be modelled after the First Civil War, it could fracture the Imperium into several states or the like. One alternative is to have Lucan killed by a group of Navy admirals intent on keeping what's left of the Imperium together. Anyone else?

Larsen Whipsnade has been working on an alternate time line along these lines...its up in the IMTU forum.

My own notion; get rid of Noris in 5FW, replace with new npc Admiral [not Santonocheev!] that kicks Zhodani butt, then goes to capital and gets hitched with Iphegenia. The new npc Admiral has the support of a significant plurality of the IN, and through this support eventually discovers Dulinors plans and deals with him preemptively.

Having the new npc Admiral also short circuits Varian and Lucan from making it to the throne, since he would be married to Iphegenia.

The easiest way to introduce the Second Civil War is to leave most of the MT setup alone, but make these changes:
- Lucan (while a murderer) is not insane.
- The other nobles actually fulfill their duties.
- Strephon really is dead.

Now you have conflict on two fronts (Dulinor and the Solomani), but you don't get all of that "equal sized combatants" crap. You can now let things evolve without requiring it to completely degenerate.

You have numerous options at hand. The whole universe does not have to be at war to have an area conflict. If you want you can have an incursion of the CT baddies like the Zhodani or a particulary nasty Vargr clan in the general area whrere your players are located. Trade wars are also convienient and can be very nasty as money talks and a some of the mega corporations can have major conflicts with each other. You can also send players into red zone systems where they have to dodge naval patrols, smugglers and the freaked out population that is the reason for the interdiction in the 1st place. My 2 cents on the rebellion is it was not traveller but a new game altogether. You can have a lot more conflict than your group can ever deal with and not alter the political situation for an entire sector.

In My camp Strephon and Margaret faction won the rebellion by working together. There is no virse for the AL chip as Lucan has than unfountrate accident arraign by the Varian Faction. Since Margaret hushand
was kill by agents of the Solomani and Margaret did give birth to two boys of Strephon seeds they got marry to reunited the Imperium together again.

I would modify this only by allowing Dulinor's plan to whack the two brothers eliminating the problem (making him more the Richard III in 56th century than before).

Milady GM/ & fellow poster of these boards,
As a heretic, might I inquire as to the fates of Duke Craig (my hero); Norris, and Brzk of Antares (to say nothing of the Shadow Emperor of Vland, or did this not occur due to the timing of Lucan's fate at the hands of Varian?).
As for Duchess Maggie's husband mr B. Trulla Tukera's fate, one wonders if (heretical me!) The Vermene (Tukera LIC's Intel service) might have been a tad disloyal after maggie let IRIS clean the floors with them?).

The marriage of State/ heirs, I can see.(but then again, lass, I am a heretic & a romantic too!)
Slainte!

The other faction would rejoin than reform Imperium when they realism that by rejoining there are benfits. Plus I think than lot of then broke away as they didnot like either Lucan or Dulinor at all. Look
Strephon would see Margaret as than woman who represents the classic conserate value of the Imperium an fighting her will destory the Imperium and make the prosal to her is than very good move as they have alot in common with each other.

Liam, as an alternative, it has flaws. I prefer the DGP version, as...

But, guys Margaret is already married to the Turkey guy. It would take the pervert Lucan to actual propose to Margaret. Stephon ought to be in mourning, there for the Black Duke scenario with Margaret and Dulinor uniting seems much more feasible...as at least these two were not hammering one another. Craig would sue for peace with the Solomani and in turn a protectorate would be set up in Delabi. Norris and the Vilani would engage in a shadow war (a kind of Cold War, save without proxies). Leaving Stephon and Dulinor to pound Lucan. But, with the bulk of the armed forces rallying on his side, Lucan represents the 3i...This is your Imperium, love it or leave it. The bulk of the population still staying commands huge reserves to fight. With every passing day Stephon's resolve falters till he has to accept Lucan as Emperor.
