Correct.

Nope, not strictly by the rules, as I read them at least. Needs minimum Pilot-1 and Medic-1 to qualify as competent in the position, so pulling double duty (degrading effectiveness) means Pilot-2 and Medic-2 minimums. Easy fix though, just drop his Elec-3 to Elec-1 and bump the other Pilot and Medic up

Yep, but not a requirement in the rules (kinda silly mind, but there it is). The Skip does have Nav-2 though so I wouldn't worry

Hey, cool, names :D I was drawing blanks and wanted names. For a little diversion I'm typing up to share on the board ;) More on that shortly. You won't mind me borrowing will you S4?

I'll probably pass on the personality snapshots though. Good ones, I just already started with a bit of my own take is all

I rolled up a character for the Navigator. But, as Traveller chargen is interesting that way, I didn't get what I set out for...but did get something cool that will fill the bill.

I attempted a Scout, but failed and submitted to the draft. As luck would have it, the character was drafted into the Navy.

Then, I tried his entire career to get Navigation, and ended up getting Pilot-2 on his last term.

Gawd, I love Traveller chargen.

So, I'll re-arrange the Captain above to be the GRENDEL's navigtor. The new-hire will be the ship's Pilot.

Here he is...

Pilot-2, Computer-2, JOT-1, Electronics-1, Vacc Suit-1, Shotgun-1

Age 34; Retired Commander of the Imperial Navy after serving four terms; TAS Member; Newly hired on as the GRENDEL's Pilot.

I was hoping others would get into the swing of things and post how they were running the adventure.

Heck no. Post 'em. I want to see what you've got.

This kind of stuff is always good to keep for NPCs later.

I want to especially see your personality quirks! Those types of things are so helpful in roleplaying a character (I wrote mine to remind me to jump into the different frames of mind as I role played each character--just me playing all of the crew).

I definitely want to see what you came up with. Please post.

I thought there was a requirement for Nav on a starship?

Am I wrong?

Requirement for Medical officer only if you're carrying passengers. Gunners only if you want to fire your weapons.

But, Pilot, Engineer, and Nav all a necessity.

Well I'm just going by the old LBB2. Of course that changes somewhat as each edition built on the rules

Nav is only required on ships of over 200tons.

Medic is required on all starships 200tons and more, passengers or not, probably for crew health and welfare as much as passengers.

Pilot is a requirement for all ships yep.

Engineer is required for ships 200tons and more, one per 35tons of drives.

Note on Morale: I took a few GM liberties in modifying the roll.

First, vanilla morale rules from Book 4 were used: If a civilian, then Morale is 1D + Tactics skill. If a character from a military career, then Morale is 1D +1 +Tactics +Terms.

First off, I modded this in that Morale can never be higher than INT, just like my regular campaign I run. This only came into play once, with the dorsal gunner, Viceroy Grahmm Lee.

Second off, the Morale for military career is really meant for mercenaries. The military dude that spends his whole career in supply won't have the morale of a Navy SEAL. So, if the character looked to me to not have combat experience, then I cut the terms by half (3 Terms meant +2 to the roll). That way, they're better than civilians but not near as good as front line troops.

I determined if they had combat experience by their combat skills. If they had no weapon skill, or Skill-0, then they got the 1/2 bonus. If they had at least weapon Skill-1, they got the full bonus.
