Solomani Rim Materials...

Jeffr0

SOC-14 1K
I'm trying to come up with a list of resources for the Rim...

...

Azun had an entire issue of JTAS.

Janosz is detailed in The Argon Gambit.

Death Station takes place at Gadden.

Prison Planet is at Newcomb.

Nomads of the World Ocean is on Bellerophon.

Murder on Arcturus Station is in the Arcturus Belt.

Signal GK takes place on several worlds in the Rim.

...

Anything else I should know about...?

Take a look at the game Imperium for history and some background info. Early Terrian ships favored Lasers while the Imperium was a more balanced mix of weaponery. This mindset might still be there for ship design.

Was the Aldebaran Sector ever mapped, officially...?

Or is that just a file on Jon F. Zeigler's computer at this point?

IIRC it was generated on the old Galactic program around 00 or 01, try a search at travellermap.com or zho.berka.com

I'd do it myself but severely limited time recently.

I have no clue as to the reliability of the data that I've seen floating aound on the web. One is clearly an ATU with a massive Solomani Civil War...!

Hsanivvoh Morr's "The Rise and Fall of the Solomani Movement"
(Vegan Free Press, published 1042)

This rare document has been quoted in GDW's boardgame "Invasion Earth"

Its to be noted that several units of unmatched history were in this last defense of Earth against the hated Vilani imperialists. A quick look down the unit roster, one quickly notices the 82nd and 101st Solomani Grav Jump Divisions, units both with long histories of honors in combat.

I believe doing some research that the 1SG and 2SG Solomani Elite Grav Tank Regiments have history dating back to the British Royal Tank Regiments that defended Singapore against the Japanese invasion in WWII of ancient Earth history.

DGP's "Solomani & Aslan" has a dot map of the entire Solomani Confederation and surrounds, including Aldebaran. I belive that this agrees with the locations on the Traveller Map site.

The Traveller content that comes with Cosmographer, an add-on for Campaign Cartographer 3 seems to agree with these as well, though I haven't done a system by system check to be sure. I believe that Cosmographer has Marc Miller's approval and is therefore canon.

A Vegan scholar writing about the Solomani? Hah! Very biased, I would think. ;)

Cosmographer 3 uses the data from Traveller Map. Traveller Map claims to use the data from Core. Traveller Map is using the subsector names from The Zhodani Base. In the Credits at Zhodani Base, a change by Anthony Jackson is noted.

Just remembered... John M. Ford's Roadshow (or something) from JTAS is set on the Rim. The rock band Veedback and all that...

Any other obscure JTAS articles or the like...?

Was there much Rim stuff in MT?

I know the 1248 Freedom League sourcebook talks about the RC's conflict with something called the Solee....

Unfortunately the Core data has some bugs, and the names assigned to worlds are just awful: on the Delphi-Old Expanses border you can find "Francine" besides "Mc Cluskey" and "Ginger" besides "Mc Naughton". "Bert", presumably from Sesame Street also makes an appearance.

LOL

If you read the article it does seem the Imperials granted Vegan independence to separate them from the Solomani and use their area as a staging area for invasion.

Nobles

GURPS Traveller: Nobles also has biographies of several Nobles from the Solomani Rim. Good background material and potential adventure situations.
