Spinward Marches Campaign

In my opinion, and in a word, no. This is born out, or will be when the auction closes, in that no one has bid on it at that price. I also note some of the other items the same seller has seem to have rather inflated prices.

All that said there does seem to be a higher price paid down under for Traveller stuff based on my own auctions a while back. So anything is possible, especially in an auction if you can get two or more collectors going. I'd love to get US$95 for my own copy, heck I'd probably take US$90

But then I'm the guy who sold a quite pristine copy of "Atlas of the Imperium" for US$13.50 last fall (listed buy-it-now price) and still felt it was overpriced.

I still can't understand the outrageous prices being paid for this item (AoI) but then the whole collecting thing is a bit strange (not that I'd ever succumb to collecting fever, no, no, not me

Yeah, I'm culling the herd. I just listed something on EBay for the first time (IISS Ship Files), so I am going to see how this plays out -- obviously, if no one pays $95, it ain't worth $95, I'm just trying to see where to set a price. I've got some Extra JTAS's (I have a full set mind you, but I'm not parting with those!) and the like.

Good luck with the auction, it seems a fair starting price and I hope it gets some valid bids for you. One thing that might hurt your auction is timing it such that you aren't able to close it for 11 days after the end of the auction. I know I wouldn't be bidding for that reason alone. So don't be too disappointed if it doesn't get bids.

Or not ;) Auctions are tricky beasts. Start too high and no one bids or looks twice. Start low and you never know how high it will go (and usually in the last seconds, sellers love snipers). I listed a bunch of Challenge mags in my auction last fall for US$2 starting based on the going prices and such. Some of those went for over US$30 each and stunned me. It just happened they were seen by a few collectors looking to fill in and complete and bidding frenzy ensued. I had almost listed them all with buy-it-now for US$5 but was afraid it would spook buyers.

As for what to set the SMC at I'd guess around US$15, but that's just my own morals and gut feeling about what I might pay for it if I didn't have it. My advice (free and worth every penny ;) ) is list it with no reserve and no buy-it-now, start at US$9.99 or less (that sweet spot of not quite "real" money and see what you get.

The JTAS and the rest, list them seperately for the best deals. More work but better bids usually. Wow, more free advice

I'd agree that your starting price is reasonably fair for the IISS Ship Files. I tend to set my starting price for around a dollar figuring that people who are interested will bid up the price appropriately. So far, I haven't been seriously disappointed yet, even for some old anime robot toys that eventually sold for hundreds of dollars.

I think that people who set high starting prices for things tend to be semi-professional or professional shops who figure that they'll just have to list the items multiple times before they are lucky enough to get someone wandering through who is willing to pay.

I wouldn't recommend listing an item unless you can conclude the sale and ship the item promptly after the auction ends. I have some sericells that I'm not going to list until after a vacation for that very reason.
