Starship Encounters - An Alternate Method

Book 2 bases encounters on starport type and a 2D roll.

This, from WD, considers the system's TL and population as well as the Book 2 factors.

Add: Starport factor + Population code + Tech Level.

Then: Divide by 3 and subtract from 14.

System is an Amber Zone: Add +1.

System is a Red Zone: Add +4.

System has Scout Base: Subtract -1.

System has Naval Base: Subtract -1.

Here are the Starport factors:
</font><blockquote>code:</font><hr /><pre style="font-size:x-small; font-family: monospace;">Class A 11
Class B 8
Class C 5
Class D 3
Class E 1
Class X 0</pre>[/QUOTE]Example: Regina's UPP A-788899-A. Both a Scout Base and a Naval Base are present.

11 + 8 + 10 = 29

29 / 3 = 9

14 - 9 = 5

5 - 1 = 4 (Scout Base)

4 - 1 = 3 (Naval Base)

Regina's Starship Encounter number is: 3+

You roll twice for starship encounters. Once when approaching the world and once when leaving.

For non-starship encounters, take the starship encounter chance you just figured and subtract it from 12, then divide by 2.

Rich World: Add +1.

Asteroid Belt in the system: Add +1.

Main world in asteroid belt: Add +2.

Example: Figuring Regina's non-starship encoutner number, we...

12 - 3 = 9

9 / 2 = 4

4 + 1 = 5 (Rich World)

At Regina, you'll roll 2D for a starship encounter.

On a result of 2, there is no encounter.

On a result of 3-5, it will be a non-starship encounter.

On a result of 6+, it will be a starship encounter.
