Starship Operational Checklist

I wrote this around 2013. Designed for TNE. Probably could be used for any Traveller games. Permission given to photocopy and use for your games. Please give credit if you publish the following.

Checklist performed by ship certification officer or bridge command officer prior to space flight operations. All of the following checks may be performed on the bridge or flight deck using the diagnostic computer.

Brilliant work, and highly adaptable to other uses. You just produced the best malfunction chart/battle damage diagnosis chart I have ever seen.

Thank you for sharing this.

This is great. Not quite sure what BUS means, nor some of the values. This is a preflight checklist, right?

Shore services need to be secured, after the ship has power up to self sustaning. Been thinking about shores services alot lately.

My thinking is this: There is a stack and a reason for the stack becomes obvious as we go along. At the bottom is a 4" sewer fitting, to take on any waste from the ship's sanitary tanks.

Above that is the water fitting, about 2", above the water is the electrical power coupling, (at present something like is 3 phase-480VAC or 240VAC

Above the power coupling is the communications lines, assuming hardwired.

Above comms would be Air, or O2, and above the O2 fitting would be the H2 or fuel fittings.

All fittings would need quick disconnects and isolation valves/switches. Not all fittings will be used at all times in every port. Some ships like to make their own gas and air during wilderness refueling and take on only power.

So in your checklists, you need to start up the fusion plant, get the electrical power up, switch ship's power over from shore to internal,***VERIFY SANITARY SERVICES ARE NOT ACTIVELY ENGAGED BEFORE DISCONNECT*** then disconnect shore services.

Maybe I am getting more in the weeds than you are. It is great work and got me thinking.

Thanks for this post. Good ideas there for picturing the pre-flight preparation.

The BUS would be the computer architecture that allows communication between various systems within the computer and the end line system.
So the computer hardware might include the CPU/Memory/Input and Output. Several levels of BUS might include Control bus, Address bus and Data bus.

Most of the mass of the on-board computers (usually three) for starships would be the hardware that allows monitoring, communication and control of these systems within the computer and to the end line systems. These would communicate with the control systems whose architecture would range throughout the ship. Input and output would include a bus to each of the bridge or crew workstations as well.

Further, in TNE, these BUS might even have been modified to protect each system by the introduction of actual cord and old fashioned valves between systems to prevent conveyance of the virus between systems instead of fly-by-wire systems.:CoW:

Please feel free to explore the earlier post and work out what it means or to ask questions.

Thanks for reading.

I was looking at this as a preflight checklist, at least an outline for the set of checklists you'd have to satisfy prior to lift off. Coming from a background as a submarine rider 40 years ago, and holder of a pilot's license. So looking at what the actual action be required to satisfied the checklist item.

I would prefer something more than the computer checks for many of these items, although that would be an important part of the checklist. Especially on more automated and smaller crewed vessels, computer checklists would be key. But I feel that any captain worth his salt would do a walk-around, verify the computer, make sure the hatches are really shut, at the very least.

Do you remember the damage flow charts from the FASA game Renegade Legion?

I am taking your checklist and my old computer science flow chart stencil and am constructing such a damage chart for a Traveller ship.
