Starship Prices

GBoyett

SOC-14 1K
I noticed an extreme differences in the Scout/Courier pricing in T20 when compared to CT. T20 lists it as 42MCr. CT have it at 29MCr. Most other systems pegs the SC to be 25MCr to 30MCr.

Now most of the other design are fairly close, +/- a couple MCr. Though the A2 was off around 10MCr.

Was this intentional to show larger ships are roughly more cost effective than smaller, or this is just a by-product of the T20 design system?

This just might be faulty memory, but isn't the retail price of a Type S in CT, the price for a used vessel? I don't have my books in front of me, but that seems to tug at the memory.

Thats Ok George, if you cant afford a new ship, just Steal One off The Lot!!! or if you cant do that Ill Just Give you one....i can afford it...
lemme know.....Trader Jim....

The price in the Traveller Book (the CT hardbond) for a new Scout with the volume discount.

Beside being just wrong, I was wondering as I'm about to dive into the Vehicle/Starship Design sequences.

SideNote: All kidding aside, TJ, did you get that copy of Action Aboard you won on E-Bay? What's your thoughts on it? As the person that told you about the action I'm curious.

That's something I'm planning of doing in recreating a larger starship. I did a test run with GT and I actually came up with additional space for components. This is attributed with no power plant and fuel requirements, and I might have misread the USP for the config and streamlining.

I hope you get AA soon.

If you do the Scout/Courier under High Guard, you get a price of around MCr52. (You also have something like 40 tons of unused volume to play with). Wiht T20 based on High Guard, I think the higher price makes perfect sense.

I need to get Traders and Gunboats out.

Considering that as far as PCs are concerned the Scout/Courier is effectively free, a MCr10-15 price difference doesn't bother me that much. The only place price really matters (i.e. where it will have a tangible in-game effect) is in merchant ships that PCs are going to be paying the mortgage on, and since you mentioned that those prices are all pretty close from CT to T20 that's good enough for me.

More comments (perhaps) when I get my book...

That's true for Scouts, but Belters and Travellers that get scouts or seekers do have a mortgage to pay. Based on my calculations the difference for the Type S is about 40KCr more per month for the T20 design. Depending on business that 40KCr could mean the difference between profit and debt.
