Starting a New Group

Agreeing with the others present, I also offer Marooned or Annic Nova as interesting starter adventures. The Imperial Fringe is another good one. Some Kieth Bros. folio adventures are good too. Lots of JTAS Casual Encounters or entries from 76 or 101 Patrons can be good starters. So too can 'we have a ship... off we go exploring/trading/blowing *@#! up'. And another good option are some of the Mercenary Tickets from Book 4 or JTAS. (Ticket to Swords IIRC might be interesting...).

Taking ideas from Random and Kaladorn:

JTAS has some good mini-adventures that can be run in a short amount of time and make good introductions for trader-adventurers. "Foodrunner" can get them a ship "for free". "Dagger at Efate" is good for some tension. In between a couple of them, you can insert "Shadows", and segue seamlessly into Twilight's Peak.

And if you happen to have 'Startown Liberty', it offers a large variety of Startown encounters, which can be inserted in many other adventures.

If your Library is _complete_ then I don't think you can do much better than the Skyraiders series.. Keith Bros material, no ship required and all the fixin's for an 'Indiana Jones meets Malcom Reynolds' good time.

If you're looking to start small then 'Death Station' with pre-generated characters is a great way to get up & running fast.

If you're into rolling your own (or your players have read all of the CT stuff) the the lab ship from DS is a nice place to run an Alien style horror fest - all you need is a bunch of scientists (some living, some dead) and a really icky xenomorph.

For the true, die-hard, fly by the seat of the pants Ref... 'Startown Liberty' a pair of dice and see what happens.

Good luck! Let us know how it goes ,

I was also mulling over the idea of using
"Wanted: Adventures" as a place to start.

Thanx all. I'll have to go and re-invest time with some of these.

Is Skyraiders that good? I passed up buying it when I had the chance originally (have a lot of the other Kieth Bros output though!)... should I be fighting for a copy of the trilogy on E-bay?

Now, when we're talking about reprints, this might be a good thing to talk about the surviving Kieth brother with - it would be lovely to get reprints of these old adventures consolidated like Marc did with the big books of CT.

I like them - very similar to Lords of Thunder. Some say they are the Keith's best work. YMMV. Legend of the Sky Raiders (VOL1) is the only one that is hard to find. The other two (Trail.. and Fate..) can be had very inexpensively. They are set in the Far Frontiers sector so they might not integrate easily into a Spinward Marches campaign.

I believe Marc owns the rights to the FASA and Gamelords stuff so it's just a matter of when.

Yeah, there are a couple of those that would work well to get a group together. Two that come to mind are the security job on a liner and the school. Each member of the party could be hired individually for the liner job and put together as a team by the employer. In the school setting some of the party could be there earning some money teaching while others are there taking a course to pick up a skill. Through interaction at the school they decide to all group together once the courses are finished.

The Skyraiders triology is excellent, IMHO. It takes the characters to several different worlds with a climax in deep space. There's a reasonably fleshed-out cast of recurring NPCs including the bad guy's chief thugs. There were cheers when my party shot one of them out an airlock in the final session.

Just checked the interest list at the shop. I have one person definately who wants to play with the possibilities of a couple more. We are on our way to a game!
