Straight Rules or House Rules

I try to avoid House Rules as much as possible; they're never properly playtested and invariably alter the game away from its core concept.

So by properly playtested you mean by professionals who come up with a "this might work" kinda rule, play it a few times and decide whether or not it works and then write it down?

Bah, humbug. Personalizing an RPG to match your vision of the world you envision is the very heart and soul of role-playing games. Without that we all might as well just run canned adventures the professionals dole out to us mere mortals. I'd rather, uh, come up with a "this might work" kinda rule, play it a few times and decide whether or not it works and then write it down.

One Day, when I simultaneously have the time and the inclination, I'll get the whole lot collated into an additional set of LBBs.

 I always say the same thing every time I pick up the box to haul it to a game. But then I say the same thing about organizing the garage, too.

But inclination defeats me more than time - I get tired just looking at the pile, then get distracted into "refining" the things I find during the sorting. Maybe I could pay the kids to do it....? hmmm They won't get distracted by the siren call of rulesmongery , they'll just laugh at dad the nerd.

 Hey man, we're both floating on those same negative waves.
