I love this picture, it's beautiful. But I've seen it before, and I'm pretty sure it's a painting. I'll have to toss that over to Urban Legends and check it out.
Yeah, I was also a bit iffy on the "photo" when I was first sent the link. I haven't made up mind on it. I'm leaning towards a "no" or "fake" judgement on it.... BUT, re-examining the picture on the left, it could be real, but would depend on how low and how much throttle there was. I just don't know.
But I like the video clip a whole lot.
I saw a less exaggerated form with a Blue Angel Hornet some six or seven years ago over San Francisco Bay. The driver didn't punch through mach one (FAA air show rules and all), but everyone could see the vapor bleeding off the pressure wave as he streaked by. I always get a kick out of that.
Yes, that B-1 painting is supposed to be of a bomber flying over one of Switzerland's lakes. At least that's how I remember the caption. It's been a while since I've seen it.
The "egg" picture on the right isn't working anymore. But I've seen it (have it in my email somewhere) and it is a photograph of an F/A-18 with the condensation bubble around it.
