Still, I'm wondering where the energy is going.
Most of it is going into the bullet, and into expanding propellant gases; most of the remainder goes into heat and noise. Remember, the 'equal and opposite reaction' applies to momentum, not energy.

I agree that spinning, if you fire offcenter, could be a problem. The probable fix is teaching people to fire with the rifle butt relatively centered.

Ooooh, I want to be there when you fire a 12GA shotgun braced against your belly!

You'd better be wearing rigid armor! (Of course, kick would be lessened, but it wouldn't go away - how else is the momentum transferred?)

Firing from the hip puts the weapon closer to the CG, should be do-able with light recoil weapons (Assault rifle, smg, maybe ACR on semi). A laser aiming light would really help.

Your assignment if you choose to accept it is to collect all references to the publication "The Seven Habits of Highly Effective Pirates" from the following website:

Schlock Mercenary

That is the first strip of a serial web comic. It may take a while to find all the references and I'm not sure just how many there are. I started doing this once but shelved the project. It's likely another fan has already done this, or more, but I haven't found it yet.

If you choose not to accept this assignment just enjoy the comic strip. The company will of course disavow any knowledge either way. This post will self-destruct in 4 seconds...

Thanks far-trader.

Definately. Schlock Mercenary is the saga of Captain Tagon and his crew of space mercenaries. I think you can see where Seven Habits woud apply

I don't call it SciFi because the physics are pretty good, if wierd. It is really sneaky that way.

Thanks i checked it today .
It is hilarious
I spent a long time there i went through several years worth today .
I can really see where it fits in the Story Line

With a little Google-fu, you can find consolidated lists of the handful of rules actually articulated. They are pretty good, but somebody needs to do up the whole list - like the "If I were an Evil Overlord" lists.

Could a specially designed muzzle break help vent gasses in a way that would reduce the (spin) problem of firing from the shoulder in 0g?
