T-20-NE

Hey there!

I'm continuing my work on generating a Pocket Empire for my upcoming d20 Traveller campaign. And, as I proceed, I'm looking for ways to merge elements of T20's game system with Traveller: The New Era.

One element that I want to preserve from TNE is the relative rarity of character-owned spacecraft. So, very soon I'm going to have to address creating some House Rules to cover Mustering Out Benefits. On one hand I like the T20 MOBs with the separation between Cash and Material Benefits and the whole randomization of it all. On the other hand I want to include the earned DMs (dice modifiers) for spacecraft that's exhibited by TNE. (I'll use the TNE spacecraft benefit table wholesale).

Does anyone have any suggestion on how I can merge these benefits together? I've considered just including DMs as a third MOB that could be chosen by the player. So, either a player could roll on the Cash Benefit Table, the Material Benefit Table, or earn DMs relative to the core or service class the character has had Prior History in, and the number of terms taken in those classes. As a result, I would have to eliminate Spacecraft entries from T20's Material Benefit table altogether.

Or perhaps I could distribute DMs as a separate benefit without forcing players to diminish their Earned Benefits in the slim chance that they might be able to chip and afford a government-subsidized, junker ship.

Is there a better way to handle this?

I'm still working on trying to iron this out. This is what I've come up with so far:

Academic
1 DM gained per term of service. 3 extra DMs gained if “Lab Ship” is rolled on Material Benefits table.

Barbarian
No DMs gained

Belter
1 DM gained per term of service. 3 extra DMs gained if “Seeker” is rolled on Material Benefits table.

Mercenary
2 DMs gained per term of service. 3 extra DMs gained if “Mercenary Cruiser” is rolled on Material Benefits table.

Merchant
2 DMs gained per term of service. 3 extra DMs gained if “Free Trader” is rolled on Material Benefits table.

Noble
2 DMs gained per term of service. 3 extra DMs gained if “Yacht” is rolled on Material Benefits table.

Professional
1 DM gained per term of service.

Rogue
1 DM gained per term of service.

Traveller
2 DMs gained per term of service. 3 extra DMs gained if “Ship” is rolled on Material Benefits table.

Army
1 DM gained per term of service.

Navy
1 DM gained per term of service.

Marines
1 DM gained per term of service.

Scout
2 DMs gained per term of service. 3 extra DMs gained if “Scout ship” is rolled on Material Benefits table.

I've definitely got some kinks to work out of this. I'd rather not unbalance starting credits for beginning characters (if they choose to cash in all the dice modifiers).

As a suggestion only (stress both words!), a caveat for the officer/ emlisted difference in DMs fer ships as well.
Navy 1 DM, enl.; 2 DM, officer...

heretically yours,
