T20 at GenCon Indy 2003

Fellow Travellers,

Event submission for GenCon Indy 2003 has begun, and I find myself considering submitting three T20 events to run at GenCon. However, before I do, I want to make sure that there's enough interest that the games will "make" (i.e. that each session will have at least a minimum number of players, so that we can actually play.) I would welcome your thoughts on the matter. Should I submit my T20 events for GenCon, or should I find something else to do during the evenings?

Thanks in advance,
Flynn

I am sure that if you submit and run some T20 events at Gencon that we can probably conjure up some good support. No promises, but having people play the game at Gencon is a GOOD thing.

Let me pass the idea by hunter and see what he says and see what the reactions to your post are.

Hey, Bruce,

I posted something similar on the TML, and Hunter offered assistance, if needed. Sadly, I'm not sure what to ask for.
In general, all I really need is an adventure (which I'm writing) and players. I know there's a lot of support out there for T20, but I don't know how many players are going to GenCon. (For some reason, the TML tends to avoid GenCon, and I'm not sure how prevalent the sentiment is amongst other Traveller players.)

Still, on the Traveller_T20 yahoo list, there's been a response or two, which I think is a good beginning. I'm hoping to get some more direct feedback here. If there's enough interest, perhaps my game won't be the only T20 game out there, and I'll get a chance to play, too.

Hope this helps,
Flynn

I'd be happy to play in your adventure, but I doubt I could get out to Indy 2003 GenCon - and by the way, where could I find out about it?

I think there's going to be enough interest, so I'll submit the events to GenCon, so it'll be available in their pre-registration book in April/May. I'll also post the descriptors here, so that you can see what they will see.

I'm also going to submit it as an Epic adventure to COTI/QLI, so there's a chance you might see it in it's full glory in another form. If COTI/QLI doesn't accept it, I'll write it up and post it to the web, for those who are interested. But that will be after GenCon.

Hope this helps,
Flynn

Okay, here's the summaries that will appear in the GenCon prereg book, as well as the times I've requested to run each game:

Thursday evening:

"T20: The Ruins of Carson's Moon

A simple retrieval mission to find and return an archaeology professor lost amidst the abandoned ruins of Carson's Moon becomes more complicated when the ruins turn out to be not as abandoned as the ship's crew believes. Scenario uses the Traveller T20 rules system; characters provided by the Referee."

Friday evening:

"T20: Staying One Step Ahead...

Life on the shady side is never boring, especially when a small-time job goes awry, and the crew finds themselves caught up in something bigger than they had ever planned. Scenario uses the Traveller T20 rules system; characters provided by the Referee."

Saturday evening:

"T20: All In A Day's Work...

The ship's crew find themselves in the unlikely position of becoming local heroes, when the Imperial Ministry of Justice recruits them for a very special mission. Scenario uses the Traveller T20 rules system; characters provided by the Referee."

Hope this helps,
Flynn

These are 4 hours slots?

Thanks for the feedback, Bruce.
I actually have them all slated for six hour slots, just in case. Gives me more room for story development, resolving any encounters, etc.

(Typo corrected.
)

I've tried for a 7:00pm start time. I'll get a confirmation of exact time, etc, sometime after Feb 3rd, from what I understand.

Hope this helps,
Flynn

Well you let me know when and where they are and I will make some time to slip by ebfore or after your event to saya llo to the troops and ask them how they enjoyed it etc etc.

I'd be curious to know how it goes.

I'll be there, and I'll look forward to playing T20. I'll basically be splitting my time between T20 games and D&D3e Kingdoms of Kalamar games - and I prefer non-RPGA/"Living" games at Cons.

This is in Indianapolis, right? If it is, I won't be able to make it. Good luck, though.
Yes, GenCon has moved to Indy.
Just when I had Miliwaukee nailed down, too. Now I have to learn A whole new city layout. Must find good rib joint, good wing joint, good nudie bar, Dunkin Donuts, Wal Mart and Kinkos... I'm the wheel man, I have lots of responsibilities...

I look forward to meeting you guys.
And Maspy, when you find that good rib joint, etc., feel free to share some of that info with the rest of us. ;)

Hasta,
Flynn

OK...granted, I haven't doen an exhaustive search but...

What are the dates of GenCon 2003? I went to the website and saw the pre-reg dates, but I haven't seen any dates for the Con itself...maybe I'm just blind..

-Roger

From their website:

"Gen Con Indy '03
When: July 24th - July 27th
Where: Indianapolis, IN"

I hope this helps,
Flynn

I'm all for that! Since I hope to start my games at 7pm each night, I'd love for it to be around 5 or so one evening. That way, I can get together with the COTI crew, then head over for some T20 afterwards.

Looking forward to it,
Flynn

It's still very much up in the air, but I may actually end up at this thing too. I grew up in Indiana and used to go to GenCon every year, but once I moved to sunny California that tradition had to end. However, now that it's moved significantly closer to my old (and mom's still current) home -- 3 hour drive down from ~8 -- and, even more importantly, because I've still got a basement full of old games which I've been told to either sell or take with me (which isn't really doable) I just might make the trip this summer -- assuming dates and funds work out. I wouldn't be doing any actual gaming (well, not rpg-ing -- I might try to get in some wargames or minis*) but if there's a COTI shindig or other Trav-related party and I'm in town I'll try my durndest to be there.

Question for anyone who's been to GenCon in the last few years -- is the auction still a good place to buy/sell games or has eBay killed it?

*HINT: a large-scale Striker scenario would be really cool...
