T20 Deserves Praise

Hello all,

You do not hear from me very often as a matter of fact never.

Since releasing T20 we have heard a mixture of praise as well as disbelief in the audasity to have the distributor orders shipped directly to them.

Consequently that meant it showed up in the stores while the pre-orders were still en-route from Canada to Georgia.

All in all there is much I could say about that decision and all would be in support.

I'd rather concentrate on the praise this book deserves.

T20 is a masterpiece of quality, organization and tremendous effort.

Hunter, Martin and all the individuals who contributed to this deserve a big hand. It is a year and a half of blood, sweat, tears and tremendous sacrifice. The result speaks for itself.

Regardless of the shipping snafoos and frustration, without these guys...What would you have?

From behind the scenes,

You have a point. It's easy to assume that with the number of "where's my book posts" and "I found this typo" posts that the perception is negative.

In my case it's not. I've been drooling over my book for a long time I think it's well worth the 100 plus Canadian dollars I paid for it and a PHB (which I otherwise wouldn't have bought). Before you take the negativity too much to heart folks, look at your bank balances.

On the other hand, I am a (amateur!) writer myself and know the value of thick skin when hearing -critique- (critique, not CRITIC). If you lash out at people for telling you there's clouds in the sky, soon your weather reports aren't going to be worth the paper they are printed on.

If a person doesn't get their book. how is QLI supposed to ship a new one/track the old one unless they are told.

If a book has errata the producer -needs- to know. Errata bad, Editing GOOOOOD.

I would also assume a resounding vote of approval as from the growing numbers of us "virgin" travelers that keep showing up.

One could assume the majority of the posts here that DO NOT deal with bad shipments are defacto praise.

praise?? you think this book is deserving of PRAISE??

It deserves much more than that! It should be immortalized in story and verse! It should have it's portrait painted by the world's greatest artists! There should be shrines built to it, both real and Virtual!

Oh..sorry. Got a bit carried away there

Yeah, it's not bad <g>

From the glance I got of it at the GM's house last week (I'm still waiting for mine), I would say it deserves lots of praise. The layout was fantastic, pages were not crowded (and there was still lots of information), It looked GOOOOD.

You want song?

Here is the current version:

O where, or where has my Traveller book gone?
O where, or where could it be?
It shipped Monday,
But it's not come my way.
O where, o where can it be?

I'll do a more praiseworthy song when it arrives!

I got mine earlier today.

I think this is very likely the best LOOKING edition of Traveller I've seen yet. I haven't played with it enough to comment on the rules yet, but I'm really impressed by the caliber of the art and graphic design.

Thanks, Michael and Tom. All of us at Diverse Hands Studios (yours truly, in particular) put a lot of effort into the graphic design. Bryan Gibson, Allen Nunis Paul Daly Jason Millet and Chad Fidler also contributed incredible illustration work. Thanks for noticing.

Hunter and Team!

Got my pre-order in the mail yesterday!!!!! Absolutely beautiful!

Thanks so much!

I was looking over last night. Now I have only played Traveller 3 times before and one of those was just rolling up the character.
My wife dislikes the character sketches. In her eyes either costume/fashion sketch or cartoonish.
Tonight will be the first real test. I Dming and one player wants to flip through the book. He has already browse the lite version. If it meet with his specs he states he stop dming 2Ed and just go to traveller.

First gripe. I would have place the prior history pages next to the class page.
First yea! Nice opening story.

Looks Likes lots of hot bubble baths as I read through this huge volume.

Praise. Yup, most definitely. It is obvious these folks worked their collective butts off and created something special. I have most of the main D20 games; CoC, D&D, WoT, etc. T20 blows them away in my opinion. It was well worth the wait.

For what it's worth guys, I never assumed pre-orders meant an early delivery. Good on ya! Semper Fi!

Whatever comments I might have had about your shipping methods are moot, as my copy arrived safe and sound today! Of course, having no willpower at all, I'd already gone to the local shop to pick up a copy when it arrived there about 11 days ago. My wife got the copy that arrived today...

Well, fellow members of the Conclave of Evilness... it seems Operation Preorder Delay has worked! (cakcle). Many of the weak-willed have gone out and bought a store copy during the delay... we should congratulate ourselves. Let us uncork another hamster....

But seriously:

It has got to be the best, bar none (and I harken back to CT dayz ya'll lissen up!), traveller product ever seen, to date.

Layout, clarity, illustrations, quality of paper, artists work (B/W and color-YUS!)...and if ye have to throw this puppy at a yak-yakker at h' table this weekend, they'll be down fer 1d6+3 hit points.

BUt don't do that...to the book!
For those of you who wish to glower, go ahaead. There's thems that create, thems that utilize, and thems that criticize.

There's a 4th kind, but they're so out of th' picture, we refer to em as "Air thieves".

If ye ordered an its late, hang in there. You'll be doing hosannas and hand stands soon enough!

Hunter, MJD, Bruce, MWM, and Rose (yes you lass)...
A fifteen minute Standing O, AND DELAY OF GAME PENALTY taken in stride fer this masterpiece.
And all the playtestors...
And the art guys...
And the proof readers...(we'll talk about youse tomorrey!)

5 Star smashing stuff--rolling hot, servin' up more.

Gotta go now.

BTW, welcome to crossin post 100 Ld Rhys (SOC-12)!

I got my book late in the day on Friday... being that I have only just now pulled my nose out from between the pages, I have the following comments to make to the design team:

1. You forgot the kitchen sink.

Everything else that is essential appears to be here. There are a few things that would have been nice (psionics and martial arts careers, more small arms listings, etc.)... but otherwise this is very solid work.

2. I have been using a homebrewed system for Traveller for years now... with the forsworn position that I would be using my cobbled together patchwork of ideas until something better came along... That just happened.

Now, I have to go and port over my happy book of firearms and ordinance. :(

3. I've been gaming for the better part of twenty years now... this has got to be the most internally consistent product I've seen to date. Barring the errata discussed elsewhere on this site, of course.

4. Whoever your page layout person is deserves a raise. I used to work for Kinkos doing DTP, amateur publishing, and liaison for short run printing. I've seen good and bad. Your layout is very clean, easy on the eye, and makes good use of space. Kudos.

I finally go my copy in at my FLGS at lunch time today. Wow. I knew all the crunchie bits from playtesting, but the quality of all the rest is incredable. You all did an excellent job and I thank you for it.

Woohoo. I'm having a difficult time getting any work done today!

William

On noting the page layout,I agree with Darth Sillyus regarding how well done it is. When Spycraft came out I was dismayed to find that I could barely read the thing unless the light was JUST SO (Has metallic silver on a lot of the pages, makes it a booger to read).

I look forward to the upcoming releases with great relish (and a small amount of mustard :D )

No complaints from me.

I picked up my copy at the FLGS a couple of days ago and have been poring through it ever since.

First impressions are that this is a very, very fine product. Kudos all around.
