T2300 vs. 2300AD

I own almost all of the first edition T2300, but I've never read it (used to buy and buy rpgs for the heck of it like a disease). I stopped buying before 2300AD came out (but still have some second edition supplements).

But, I'm curious, what are the major differences between first and second edition 2300?

Another question:

Having never used it myself, what do you guys think of the Damage Point system in 2300? Rolling a d10, comparing, looking at a chart?

my thoughts on the system of the game lie elsewhere on this forum and I don't remember any major rule differences (I've never used the system as I found it clunky and preferred BRP).

Greetings and salutations,

Actually, there is no difference between Traveller: 2300 and 2300AD other than the name change. Both games are the same system. The name change happened so RPGers did not buy the game thinking it was a Traveller product.

I thought 2300AD says its the game's "second edtion" on the inside cover?

I stand corrected. The Second Edition has an extended background and enhanced rule system. Still, it is still the same game to me.

Care to elaborate on the "enhanced rule system"?

That I cannot do based on the fact that I never played Traveller: 2300. When I played, I only had the 2300AD rules.

The combat rules are better explained in 2300AD.

The biggest issue I had was the lack of carstock covers on the 2300AD books.

It's a good engine. Runs fine. Wish the OTU had been ported to that rules engine.

I own both rules sets from when I was in college. The main difference, other than the expanded background, was a slight change in the difficulty levels for task attempts. The 2300AD rules lack the formula for computing the distance between star systems, which is one of the reasons I am glad I have the original rules set.
