just caught the pilot! Definately Traveller material! Cant wait for the rest of the series!

Saw a lot of Copy cat from Jurasic Park, And the leader of the village was very much a copy of the Avatar officer from the mine. Then there is the subplot with the drawings and something else going on that was Lost like.

Still a great show. Except it felt like 10 minutes of ads between 5 minute blocks of the show. Looking forward to the 1st season coming out on DVD so I can watch it without ads.

The local station started SG 1 back up in order this weekend so got to see the 1st 2 episodes back to back. This is another interesting idea for traveller.

The cost to run the gates and the risk make it non viable for trade but great for making a Traveller strike team to go out and check out new worlds.

...I'm looking forward to watching my recording of the show.

Ditto, when I find time... ;)

That said don't forget the forum's cool spoilers tag (someday I might remember how to do the neat formatting to show it that Wil has tried to hammer into my thick skull with no luck :) )... (don't use the spaces inside the [ and ] brackets...) :

[ sblock ] spoilers go here [ /sblock ]

In the meantime I'm hoping it is decent and doesn't get cancelled in favour of some newer "reality" show... there's precious little worth a watch it seems.

That's because that is the same actor that played the Colonel in Avatar.

It was interesting. A bit Land of the Lost/Jurassic Park feel and Julian May's Saga of Pliocene Exile.

I was surprised by it (no spoilers).

While I liked the gritty look in the commercials, the dinosaurs made me think it was going to be super-cheesey.

It turned out to be Lost meets Jurassic Park (after the initial cyberpunk-genre stuff). Isolated, mysteries, dinosaurs and Others (6) running around. That being said, I don't fault it, it still is original in today's market - there aren't any other Lost meets Jurassic Park shows out there. I'm of the mindset that with the wealth of shows, movies, and novels out there no one can be truly original. No matter if what you make is completely a new idea to you, there is still something that was already released that it can be compared to.

What surprised me was the character actually had depth. The main character is a police officer, but not the cookie-cutter TV series sort. There is some depth there (won't spoil).

I'm looking forward to the second episode, even though I figured I woudn't be. Gladly surprised.

I enjoyed it. My fear is that Fox is known for putting great shows in bad time slots. (Firefly) Where they are up against Monday night football. I hope it continues there is a lot that can be done with it. Great score getting Stephan Lang as the commander.

Spoilerific questions and speculation below:

Spoiler:

1. We figured out the mystery of who is doing the equations on the rocks and the fact that the Commander's Crazy Lost Scientist Son is still alive way too quickly. Should have saved these two mysteries for a later episode.

2. What exactly are the equations about? A way to get back to the future? Or a way to solve a big problem the CCLSS discovered (and the 6's and his dad are keeping quiet about it). See 3.

3. The 6's, the Commander, and this son obviously know something they haven't told us yet. My speculation is that the time travel did NOT create an alternate Earth as described. The CCLSS is trying to prove or solve the problems created by Terra Nova actually being in the past of Earth, which will lead to the demise of future Earth. This is why the pilgrims of Wave 6 came back, they secretly knew of this problem after discovering the secret in the future. They came back, stock piled weapons, and were going to destroy Terra Nova and themselves to prevent future Earth from ceasing to exist. But what about the probe? A red herring so if anyone thinks this is the mysterious problem it will be shoved aside because the probe already proved the theory wrong...because it wasn't there in the future. So, in a future episode we will see how the probe gets moved away or destroyed.

4. Unless I heard something wrong, Terra Nova is communicating with the future. I can't remember exactly what, but the Commander mentioned something that showed Terra Nova must be speaking with the future even if no one can travel home. Just how is this happening?

5. Why no flying craft sent through the portal? There doesn't seem to be a restriction on technological gadgets (big guns, electronics, etc), so why are they limited to the jeeps and half-tracks? It would seem even a light unmanned drone or small helicopter for scouting would be essential. Perhaps we will see one later, but if so it should have been already used to find the lost teenagers.

Dances with Aliens.... errr.... Avatar meets Jurrassic Park with the same lame plot lines and subplots. Bet on the military types to get eaten and use idiot choices for weapons and tactics.....

I'll pass on it. The adverts reminded me of a pilot 15+ years ago of the premise that the earth was going to go BOOM and people had to flee to "Earth 2". I don't think it lasted longer than the pilot. It smacked of the typical SyFy channel monster flicks. :oo: God, I'm so sick and tired of dinosaurs. The timetravellers should have gone WAY BACK...

Earth2 got a season on broadcast. Got WAY too campy. Especially once they brought in Tim Curry. Even won a Primtime Emmy (Best Visual Effects).

Not sure if its based on a game. But it shows a lot of promise. Been a long time since Ive seen this much character developement in a pilot.

Isn't this based off an old early 90s computer game?

I remember the demo coming with an issue of PCGamer when I used to subscribe.

You mean "Terra Nova: Strike Force Centauri"? Nope, not related, though I did enjoy that game enough to remember its name. It's also not related to Heavy Gear's "Terra Nova".

I'm going to watch it tonight. It sounds like the setting was taken from someone's 8yo brother's notepad, which means if they don't fall into the trap of taking themselves too seriously, it could be a lot of fun.

I got around to watching the 2 hour premiere episode last night. Yeah it's got a couple plot holes big enough to choke a Carnosaur but I'm hoping they close them up shortly.

At least it's not as bad as I'd dreaded and it may actually have a story. I wonder if the network will give it a chance though.

On that note, was it clever production to include the obligatory network executive pandering car chase in the first episode?
