What are the essential books for Classic Traveller?

I would say that they are for me:

Books 1-3
Mercenary
High Guard
Scouts
Merchant Prince
Striker Combat system (But not stryker design system)

Alien books (all of them)

With these, my game is complete.

I agree with that...but I substitute the Snapshot rules for close combat. I just like the action point allotments.

Man, it is amazing how many times this discussion is coming up lately.

Just to be repetatively redundant, I will go back to my baseline: my Essential Traveller is The Traveller Book and The Traveller Adventure. All else is just chrome. (Really pretty chrome, but chrome never the less.)

To your list add Supplement 4 and perhaps Supplement 7. I also like to use Azhanti High Lightning with additions from Striker as needed instead of straight Striker for PC combats.
