Season 4 of the The Expanse is now available on Amazon streaming service.

This whole series is brilliantly done, a real inspiration for any Traveller Player.

This season is the colonizing a new planet, and another interaction with the technology left behind by a mysterious, and now long dead, ancient race.

The series is based upon a series of books, which I also highly recommended.

The Expanse RPG is also available separately. It was derived from the series with input from the authors. It has some interesting ideas and decent artwork.

I can't binge watch, so I do one or two episodes at a time. What I've seen so far is amazing.

I've read the books and they're different from the show.

Begin able to see what an apparently inert Ancients artifact looks and why you don't mess with them is a very important lesson.

Loved the first seasons and will be watching this one. Want to limit myself to one or two episodes a day so I can savor them. If I watch too quickly, what's left !?

Im up to episode 4 in season 4, and im up to episode 3 in season 3 for my binge review of the preceding seasons.

Too bad they gave naomi that ugly non-hairstyle.
Im getting pretty tired of beltalowda crybullies. They wouldnt last two minutes against any team of traveller murderhobo player-cretins.

How to be a beltalowda:
1. Victimize someone for your personal gain.
2. Justify it with emotional grievance mongering.
3. Have the nerve to act wounded and surprised when the victim strikes back.
4. Refuse to accept responsibility for ones actions and attack the victim for revenge, thus furthering the cycle of violence.

Ok whos the tougher crew, holden and the roci crew or mal and the serenitys crew?

Exactly how much does said streaming service cost? And why should I spend the money for said service, when I turn my TV on perhaps once a month for something?

I don't know how it works in the US but over here in the UK I pay about £7 per month (much less then the TV tax I am required to pay to fund the BBC and lower than my WoW subscription) and I get cheap/free expedited shipping and special offers from other Amazon services. It's paid for itself in saved p&p for me.

I do not have a TV tax, nor do I know what a WoW subscription is. I do not pay for cable, and do not order from Amazon, viewing it as highly destructive to local businesses.

Well Bust buy is going out of business in many cities, but it would have boxed sets of CD's for series such as what we are discussing. Check online to see if the expanse is available on CD, or perhaps mail order from Bust Buy (Best Buy actually).

I fail to see why I should spend some of the limited time that I have left on Earth watching anything on TV. If I need some inspiration for Traveller, I have plenty of those highly old-fashioned printed books to consult, along with what is available online to read and download.

No one has made a compelling case for watching said show.

Does the expanse rpg have much spaceship combat and design?

It does indeed have space combat but no real ship design system. Ships seem to be fairly generic, in that the published adventures routinely suggest “just use the stock freighter” and so forth.

I’ve spent a lot of time perusing the game (I was a kickstarter backer at a high level) but I haven’t had a chance to play the game yet.

Green Ronin did a fantastic job. Everything I’ve received is top quality and absolutely gorgeous.

It's really good.

For you I would recommend the books. Start with the first one: Leviathan Wake by James S. A. Corey. My local, small rural town library has copies.

One of the big reasons people like the show is the source material is very good.

Why?

The are very well written. The characters are presented are real people. They are living lives and attempting to deal with the events of the world around them. The story exists in a larger, self-consistent universe with the politics of Earth, Mars, and the Belters.

The books describe the characters, the world they live in, the technology, and the political situations without delving into multi-page lectures.

In addition each book uses a Sci-Fi trope as a framing devices. So the Near-space world, War in Space, First Contact, Colonizing an alien works, Post-apocalypse, etc. So while the story continues through the difference books with the same characters, each book presents it's own view of the world.

Then don't watch it.

Folks here aren't shills for Amazon, stock holders trying to boost market share (maybe they are, unlikely though -- all Amazon shills, please raise your hand).

They found a show they like and are spreading the word about it.

I'm not going to watch it. And I have read (some) of the books, and seen the original run of it. It's really good. I even order from Amazon, I'm just not a member of Prime. Since I don't want One More Subscription that I have to manage, I'm not signing up.

As good as the show is, it's not worth the headache of me signing up for one more thing.

Perhaps penny wise and pound foolish, but there you are.

There is a chapter on each, design is not as technically detailed as Traveller, but does allow for meaningful customizations that have impact during combat.
