The Expanse Season 4

For you I would recommend the books. Start with the first one: Leviathan Wake by James S. A. Corey. My local, small rural town library has copies.

Right now, my priority book list is the most recent biography of Winston Churchill and the new one on U.S. Grant. Then one on the Flying Tigers that a friend has recommended and loaned to me. After that, I will likely reread The Silmarillion, which I have started, but put down, along with the Voyage of the Dawn Treader. Any science fiction is well back on the reading list.

As for my library, the buyer in Adult Fiction has little taste for science fiction.

This will be my final comment on the thread. Have fun.

It does indeed have space combat but no real ship design system. Ships seem to be fairly generic, in that the published adventures routinely suggest “just use the stock freighter” and so forth.

I’ve spent a lot of time perusing the game (I was a kickstarter backer at a high level) but I haven’t had a chance to play the game yet.

Green Ronin did a fantastic job. Everything I’ve received is top quality and absolutely gorgeous.

Thats sounds quite interesting. I think ill swing by my local game store and get a copy today. Expanse does fine without a ship design system really because it doesnt have the vast open endedness of traveller. There are probably less than 10 shipyards in the whole setting while traveller has thousands. Players wouldnt be the people designing and building custom spaceships in the Expanse setting. It would be like going to guangzhou shipyard and saying "hi.can you custom build me this custom cargo carrying luxury liner with guns all over it? Oh with a bar and a spa for five cretins plus npc hangers on."

But, in traveller you can do that.

This whole series is brilliantly done, a real inspiration for any Traveller Player.

I find it closer to 2300 AD, swapping stutterwarp for the gates and the Epstein drive.

You'd need to strip the contragrav tech for Traveller to get close to the Expanse.

For someone who's watched the 4 seasons, is it worth it to go back and read the books? Is everything spoiled for the books?

Yes. Books one and two are pretty well covered by the series, but book three was gutted to fit a seven episode arc and book four has some more minor events on the planet a a big subplot in orbit that got cut.

With the books, I felt the writing was much weaker once they left the solar system. The TV series so far has followed the same pattern.

I like the books better actually, The show though is probably the best Sci-Fi since the reboot of Battlestar Galactica back in 2003.

Just finished watching the 4th season and found out the 5th season won't be aired before Dec. 2020. What am I to watch before then !!!?!!!
