The Expendables 2

First I have to start by saying I didn't like the first Expendables that much. The story was kinda haphazard.

But I just watched The Expendables 2 and that rocked.

And about maybe a half hour into the movie I realized that it would make a pretty cool Traveller adventure. Mercenary or possibly just a bunch of Travellers with a Patron mission.

Check it out if you get a chance.

One of the players in my campaign has an Expendables (mong) campaign on Obsidian Portal/gametable.

Tempting as it might be to engage on the political level (RE: Stallone), I'm going to leave that little tar-baby alone ;)

I've watched The Expendables 1 & 2 and thought that they had (& succeeded at) two different aims. Recreating old action movies and being a parody of old action movies.

The first one was recreating the action movies of the eighties with actors from today. Big guns, ridiculous macho characters, and even had the good old "Corrupt CIA in South American" as the bad guy to defeat. Found it a good romp through my earliest action flick viewing.

The second one, whilst still a good (if not great) action flick in it's own right, was most definitely a parody. Instead of simply tipping their hat to Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, & Chuck Norris - they gave them an active role in the film... mocking themselves. Amusing to those of us who have seen the incredibly campy action flicks of Arnold's earlier years &/or enjoyed the ridiculousness of the Die Hard franchise.

With that said, a campy action-flick oriented game for my sons sounds like a great idea... with extra points awarded for cheesy action movie lines from their characters.

That actually sounds like something I'd like to watch, although not at theater prices - I'd wait for Netflix.

Used to love quoting Arnie's best lines from Terminator series and Commando.

"Hey Solly, remember when I said I would kill you last?"
"Yeah, yeah, you said that!"
"I lied."

"What happened to Solly?"
"I let him go."

And the Governator already showed he could do self-parody in Last Action Hero - funny when Maria had to tell him to stop pimping the restaurant.

Enjoyed both movies and if my mercenary game gets going, well, watch out for some old fogey's in a rattly ship. :D

I watched E1 twice on the silver-screen in sold-out theatres; and both audiences laughed at and enjoyed the same moments of the resurrected sweaty-giant-muscle-mountain-big-gunssZZ-action-movie genre.

And I watched E2 only once on the silverscreen in a sold-out theatre; and after the movie I just looked into happy faces - mine as well when I was for little Stallions and looked into the mirror when having washed my hands afterwards.

And I agree: Both movies are capable of being a solid base for adventures/ campaigns in games ...
