Traveller Computer game Intrest?

So we're looking at a MOG and a KOTOR to keep everyone happy.

For me - wether it's single player of multiplayer - You need to be able to create a character from any of the major races, with a variety of faces, skin colours, shape, sizes and clothing options.
You should be able to buy or hire a ship and recruit a crew. You can then explore any planet in a given subsector - maybe a dozen or so planets, with unmapped and unexplored ones further out so that you can be an explorer. A Scout in the true sense of the word if you want.
Alternatively you can be a trader, mercenary, bounty hunter, whatever.

How did they handle PC crew on ships in SWG? Could you have a team of players on a single ship or was it 'one player - one ship'?

How would you handle the 1 week in jump space if it was a MOG? You'd have to get rid of it. You can't spend a week of real time in JumpSpace and if you spent a week of game time in JumpSpace but Jumped instantly in realtime it'd knock you out of synch with the rest of the Traveller Verse.

How did they handle Hyperspace travel in SWG?

I like the idea of NWN where there was a single player game straight out of the box. Or you could team up with players online and co-op the single player game - OR - a GM could write their own games and GM them, creating custom environments and scripting events to suit. Sort of like a table top RPG with a 3D engine.

That for me is the next step for programs like GRiP. 3D maps and realtime movement and animation for player avatars - a tall order but it'd be cool. Man, if someone wanted to write it, I'd volunteer my considerable realtime modelling and texturing expertise and experience =)

Ok, real time over the internet, while keeping things straight by a GM is a VERY tall order.
Problems with rendering extensions on some client vs others, performance and debugging issues...

I did come up with an idea, along time ago, that due to my limited drawing skill, stoped me from pursuing it.

I have a turn based approach to 3D vs realtime.
It is easy, but, would require somebody with good graphic skills to make wall skins and artifacts.

It can be used via CSS using any browser. If you are interested in doing the graphics, I can go into further details.

best regards

Robject inspired me to start this thread to find out how much intrest might be generated in a computer version of a Traveller game?

What Roles would you want open to build your character?

Which systems would you want it to represent? (PC, Xbox, PS2, Game Cube, ETC.)

Where would you want the game to take place?

Which timeline would be the most open in your opinion? Why?

And the everlasting final question of all, CT (993+)or MT, or TNE, or 1248?
there already is an old apple game for traveller that
marc miller sent me, you have to use an
emulator to run it but it was already done
back in the 80's i beileve..

Welcome aboard Tom :D

I think this is the first I've seen you post so the official greeting.

Now then, funny you should mention this ;)

I've been playing a little in some spare minutes lately with the new Lego design software. Trying to do some Travelleresque vehicle and ship mini's
file_22.gif
No real progress yet but maybe others have more time or creativity ;)

The software is free for download here:

Lego.com Factory

I find it not the most intuitive tool and you have to visit the site often to load extra sets of virtual blocks but it is pretty cool and there is a forum for user questions that is pretty helpful.

The REALLLY COOOOL part is once you have designed your dream Lego creation you can order a custom set to build it for real and it comes in a box with a picture and everything. The not so cool part is Lego gets all rights to the design and can sell it to anyone else who likes it. They also pad your custom set with extra blocks "so you can build more models" and even tell you which ones. So that's kind of cool and kind of not.

Anyway I want to make a series of fig scale Lego Travelleresque vehicles and small craft to share. So if I ever do get them to a state where I'm happy I'll be posting links somewhere on CotI so others can build them. My main problem is what fig scale to use? The old 15mm or the newer 25mm? I'll probably go 25mm just for detail and ease of finding 25mm figs but it may depend on the Lego. Or maybe I'll go all Lego and make them Lego dude scale.

Yeah, I'm a bit of a Lego geek, but nowhere near some people

LEGO Dude Scale! (IIRC, and too lazy to go measure mine right now, about 30mm)
