On the other hand...
You and your GM roll up a new character. He allows you one roll for each of your stats. And, you end up rolling a 2 for your STR. But, you turn right around and roll a 12 for your DEX.
That "2" STR will guide your character generation because you'll want to
try to up-it during chargen--at the expense of skills. So, your table your rolling on is predetermined...and there's no guarrantee that you'll ever up your STR. You've got to roll it.
This would never happen in a point system.
In addition, there's a real "thrill" with rolling high during chargen. Actually rolling them bones for a high total
means something. You've had a lucky die roll, and it will give you an edge over other Traveller characters.
If you get real lucky and roll high for a few stats, then you've created a monster CT character.
That kind of feeling is priceless. It can really marry a player to his character.
And, it can't be duplicated with a points system.
