Traveller Podcast

Isis

SOC-5
A few years ago I had a weblog that followed the adventures of a character in the Solomani Rim Sector. The log was written from the character's point of view and I updated it every day. Maybe someone remembers it, it was called Traveller's Log and it followed the adventure of Isis Claybourne.

Anyway, after 6 months of the weblog I got the contract to do GURPS Traveller: Psionics Institutes, and the contract prevented me from writing Traveller related stuff that didn't belong to Steve Jackson Games, so the weblog went on hiatus.

Well, GURPS Traveller: Psionics Institutes is out now (an e23 book from Steve Jackson Games) and I am bringing Isis back to life - in podcast form.

The Traveller's Log podcast is called "The Adventures of Isis". I have recorded the original weblog into podcasts, and I am adding podcasts everyday, so you can get Isis' story as if it is coming in real time.

Looking back, I would have done things differently. The story really gets going after a week (half way through the trip on PARABUS) so don't give up after the first few episodes.

If there is interest, I was thinking about producing a whole new story, and podcast it. I feel like grabbing a merc character and putting him/her through heck - and this time I would start off with a bang.

Anyway, "The Adventures of Isis" is already a few days into the story. It ran 6 months the first time, so will run that long again. It is free, of course, so come on by the website and give it a listen if you like. For those who want to know, I referenced Steve Jackson Game's Traveller's source books, mainly _Rim of Fire_, when writing the story.

Thanks!

I have been wondering when we will get around to doing one of these. Really look forward to hearing it...but could you provide us with a link to it.

BTW, loved Psionic Institutes, a real breath of fresh air compared with the T4 product of the same name.

The website is http://travellerslog.tripod.com . If other folks decide to do Traveller podcasts, let me know and I'll add a link.

Thanks for the compliment about Psionics Institutes. I had fun writing it. I have a proposal in to the editor to do Psionics Underground, but he said they would only do it if Institutes does well. (Fingers crossed!)

I've listened to it so far and have to say I'm hooked. An excellent listen (and it must be fun to do as well!) and funky intro music in the bargain!

Thank you for sharing your work.

Well, don't let that stop you (assuming SJG rejects it). If you tweak out the manuscript, you can always publish it as a Traveller's Aide (rules free) or I am sure Flynn would be happy to serialize it.

You wouldn't make any money off of it, since we're a free PDF fanzine, but I'm sure Stellar Reaches would give it the opportunity to shine.

Thanks for the mention, Kafka,
Flynn

Aw, crap! I'll try and straighten it out. Thanks for the heads up!

I saw this post last night just as I was packing up and quickly grabbed them on to my MP3 player and listened to them on the way home.

What a great idea! I was going to mention Day2 but Fritz beat me to it!

I look forward to hearing more.

It's what they put on a hiver when he "breaks" one of those limb-like things. Duh! ;)
(Really, downloading mp3s to your iPod - but they're not music. They can be news, commentary, or Traveller adventures!)

OK, the correct Ganesh Day 2 is now in place. Sorry about that! Plus the poop just hit the fan on the PARABUS, so there are several log entries for the past few days.

The RSS feed is down (grrrr) so if you subscribed to the feed, you may have noticed you were not getting anything. All of the episodes can still be heard from the website, though.

Sigg's right, you don't need an Ipod. These are just mp3 files and you can listen to them from you computer.

The name of the podcast is "Traveller's Log: The Adventures of Isis" You can listen to all of the episodes by going to the website at travellerslog.tripod.com and clicking 'get podcast'

Whew! I think that covered everything. Thanks for listening!

It is Solomani time now, it seems

And welcome to our forums, Amanda.

EDIT: I've just finished listening to the logs, and I must say: they are masterfully done.

Hi Amanda,

I'm enjoying the podcasts :)

(pity you have to have the copyright blrub for the first 33 seconds of each cast... still c'est la vie)

Just found a slight problem; the cast for Jan 15th is the same file as for the Jan 14th - can you fix it so I can make sure I don't miss anything!?

Thanks and keep up the good work!

The podcasts are great. :D

But the file list is out of order on the website containing them, and I'm winding up hearing them out of order. :(

The podcast title in WMP, and the .mp3 file name, and the link name on the website are all different from each other. It is very confusing.
