Traveller Podcast

Note: Some of the directory names are mislabeled.

Night 4 (evening) seems to be Day 5 (logfile7C).

What year is that taking place in?

They're in the Solomani Rim, using GURPS starport stats, but they're talking like it's part of the Imperium.

My problems accessing this in-order continue.

EDIT----------

The description of logfile7c is correct, Day 5 (evening), but the directory name is Day 4 (evening).

EDIT----------

Ok, I see from later on that they're in the Imperial subsectors . . . for some reason I thought it started in the SolCon subsectors, but now that I've gone through Supplement 10, I've got their location pinned down.

I am having to go through a painstaking process of clicking on a directory name, waiting for a new webpage, clicking on the file link, waiting for a download, waiting for WMP to fully buffer before I can access my temporary internet files folder to grab them and copy and paste into another folder.

I was working my way through days 3, 4, and 5, and quite suddenly, the files for days 3 and 4 vanished from my temporary internet files folder. Now that's really temporary.

I'll have to download them all over again. :(

The website does not seem to offer the ability to simply download the files.

Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Isn't there a way to grab all the files all at once (preferably wrappered in a zipped file)? Really, 400-600 MB is no problem. It would be vastly easier than going through the above process.

-------------------

Note: I gave up work on it for the night, and brought up my music mp3s.

I selected Antonin Dvorak's Carnival Overture.

My ears are still ringing.

The volume crash was so powerful that I am hoping I didn't do damage to my headphones.

I hadn't realized how high I'd turned up the volume in order to hear the podcast audio.

The podcast's volume is much lower than all my music mp3s. Is this normal? (Says this first-time podcaster . . . yes, I just never bothered before.)

If you've followed the link on the Get Podcast Page and opened the page shown in the graphic below, you can right-click on "link" circled in red to save the mp3 to your client.

If you've followed the link on the Get Podcast Page and opened the page shown in the graphic below, you can right-click on "link" </font>[/QUOTE]I see the link, it is how I am downloading the files one at a time. It does not activate the "save" dialog box. Instead, it downloads the file in the background, and then activates WMP, which buffers it and automatically begins to play it. The file is located in the Temporary Internet Files folder, and must be manually copied and pasted elsewhere, which can only happen after WMP completely loads the file (or appears to, anyway . . . I can't see why it would take thirty seconds to load 1-3 meg files).

Right-clicking for the context-sensitive pop-up menu? Which option are you discussing? There are only: Open, Open in New Window, Copy Shortcut, Add to Favorites, Backward Links, Cached Snapshot of Page, Similar Pages, Translate into English, and Properties.

Save as Target, Print Target, Cut, Copy, and Paste are all disabled (greyed out).

Okay, let me see if I can hit on the issues raised.

-The OurMedia site doesn't let me control the order the files are listed. (Which stinks, but they are free.) If you go to my website at travellerslog.tripod.com and go to the podcast page you can get them all in order. I recommend this.

-I'm using GURPS Traveller info. The Solomani Rim book "RIM OF FIRE" is the basis for the worlds and politics. The Solomani Rim sector covers part of the Solomani Conf., the entire Vegan region and the Imperium. We're on the Imperium side for the story, with a short trip into the Vegan region. It's the 1120th year of the Third Imperium. I'll add some star maps tonight to help you visualize the area.

-I've corrected the STAR RAMMER Night 3 file. (Sorry about that! It was uploaded, but I had the link wrong on the website.)

Thanks for all of the input and questions and thanks for listening.

QUESTION: Would you guys be interested in getting these on CD? I think I could get permission to make them available through some on-demand, online CD service and you'd only pay the base price (Whatever the raw CD and burning service costs, maybe a couple bucks). I think as long as there is no profit involved they would permit this.

Was there still a problem with downloading the files? If so, I could temporarily set up a few days' worth on the website for download. I don't have the memory to store the whole thing, but I could keep rolling it over as new posts come up.

I will have to take your advice and access each Our Media page separately through your website.

Amanda, with regard to the our media site, I wonder, if you were to edit the file names of the tracks to commence with 01_ , 02_ etc whether that would then put them into chornological order.

I would be interested in getting the whole thing on CD but as I'm in the UK would prefer to download it - either way, I'd be happy to pay for it.

I'm downloading the podcases on itunes...the tracks are all called 'Isis Log' - as a suggestion you might want to give each track its individual name e.g. Isis Log_01_Parabus night 1, so that they arrange themselves in order.

Cheers

RoS, try using something other than IE. My Firefox and Opera both can be set up to disallow disabling of the context menus. (I am downloading them in the fashion LeLoup mentions.)

Amanda, I agree about the volume. I really need a chance to sit down and listen to them all, though.... Shiny, though.

OK, I've started changing the IsisLog descriptions on the MP3 files to include the episode numbers. Hoprfully this will help.

Also, I'll see about increasing the volume. I've already recorded through the end of the month, so look for louder broadcasts starting Feb 1st.

This adventure is pretty much exactly as it was in the original blog. As I am considering other podcast adventures, I think one of the changes I should make is to have less downtime (just cruising in space) and more action. The current pace has Isis getting into trouble about once a week or so. Any other suggestions?

I have Opera. Save isn't disabled on it, but it also doesn't work. It only saves a hyperlink instead of the actual file.

By working from Amanda's web page, I've had better success all the way around.

Oh dear, Amanda, one more nitpick.... :( Can you number the files with two-digit days for all the files? That way, days 1-9 don't end up scattered through the others. I'm starting to have to be pretty diligent about that myself....
(Like the logs, though!
)

Hi Amanda,

I'm throughly enjoying the cast - keep it up!

Just an FYI: somthing 'funny' seems to have happend with the "STAR RAMMER second tour Day 5" recording - your speech is running fast.

Thanks for the head's up! Sounds like Isis was using speed, doesn't it? The corrected audio is at http://www.ourmedia.org/node/159191.

I'm glad you are enjoying it.

SPOILER ALERT

-I'm really looking forward to STAR RAMMER second tour Day 9. Things kick up after that. The next few weeks will bring some action I hope everyone will really dig!

You can listen to them without having an iPod. At least the racing podcasts I have listened to worked like regular mp3 files.

If you have not been listening in a while, you might want to stop in this week and catch the action. The next few days get very interesting!
