Traveller products I'd like to see...

The Thing

SOC-13
First off, how about a redo of the traveller dice, with the symbols pressed into the dice so they don't come off as easily.

More traveller pins, badges, buttons, hats, shirts, etc, would be nice.

Traveller miniatures, as in good character mins in 28mm scale, are really wanted.

A traveller FPS/adventure game, done to the standards of System shock 2 or deus ex, would be great. A neat feature could be the ability to spend the week in jump upgrading skills or something like that. "Far trader" might be a good title for it.

I would love to see detailed deckplans to a really big ship, like 1,000,000 tons. It could be tied in to an adventure of just stand alone.

Deck-plans for a big liner would make a great setting. You're stuck there for a week each jump. Adding a passenger list/ details and a few amber zones / encounters / patrons would be a big help.

Million Ton Deckplan

Do you realize that the deck plans for a 1 million ton passenger liner would probably require more than 1600 pages (double that for the LBB format)? That is only the deckplans, you still need the text descriptions. Producing a page a day, that would be on the order of six and a half years of full time work.

I don't expect to see one soon, and probably couldn't afford it if they published one.

I guess it depends on what one defines as "detailed" deckplans. But atpollard pretty much summed it up nicely.

Closest I can think of that was done with some detail in this ballpark size was the AHL for CT, and that's only 60Ktons. I don't recall it being a huge seller as supplements go. Nothing as big has been done since that I recall which seems to point to it being not worth the effort.

Again, it's been done once to my knowledge, the King Richard supplement for CT is everything you ask for. But as noted above it's a big project for a limited part of a small market so there's probably not enough sale potential to make it worthwhile.

No one said it had to be practical :)

You want BIIIG deckplans, eh?

How about 30 or more pages of deckplans?

There's a massive PDF out there somehwere for a ship called the "Pioneer x" that has the deckplans for a huge ship and 6 or more axillary ships to it.

Do a websearch and "Traveller pioneer x deckplans" and you should find it easily. it's in color with 3d effects too, very very nice, and I compliment the designer.

Never mind the search, here's the link: http://www.btinternet.com/~salvo/traveller/deckplans/

AHL's plans were part of a boxed boardgame... It was a standalone game, which also included the striker/snapshot hybrid system (Striker combat, Snapshot movement/actions, plus the traveller conversions for Striker/AHL), Supplement 5 - Lightning Class Cruisers, and around 20 decplan sheets on 11x17 inch color single-sides, plus a countersheet or two.

Really big but "extruded polygon" ships can easily be done that way. The 20 degs of gunnery are one plan, Engineering has IIRC 3 sheets. (I'm not checking... it's buried, and I *JUST* got back from out of town.)

I'd like to see Mayday converted into a computer game, with the complete set of Bk2 standard ship designs included, as well as the capability to input/add on your own Bk2 designs. Some nice 'cut-scene' video between turns or when a ship is destroyed, just to add some nice visuals.
As an alternative, a High Guard combat program. Load in the USPs for all your ships, select total computer control of your fleet, or total manual control, or some of both. Straight Bk5 rules, or including optional rules from JTAS or other sources. Also with the 'cut-scenes', and maybe incorporating vector movement from Mayday.
I don't ask for much, do I?

Cheers,

Bob W

Traveller Products I'd like to see:

I second the call for Pins and Patches, maybe something we could use for costuming. ( Got my shirts already :) )

How about some nice books with 3 view drawings of starships and a size comparision chart.

Maybe some software for the Palm and Pocket PC ( Character Sheets, etc. )

Maybe a book or disk with Logos and Form Templates we could actually plug into to create handouts.

For me, one thing I've never got my head around using is bases. A scout or naval base sounds like a good location for adventuring, but there's pretty much no information on them. Even the books on scouts and the navy (like First In or Grand Fleet) focus on mobile operations.

So, my top wishlist item is a book on Bases.

Big Ship Deckplans

Well, like they did for AHL, you could have several decks that are identical. Your High Passage Decks might be 10 identical decks (different colors of course, but the same layout...). Same for Mid passage. LOTS of identical decks there... Low Passage would be even more decks of identical rows of cryo units.

A 1Mton Liner would be a bit impractical in most Traveller settings though, except perhaps in the Imperial Core.

Maybe a nice 50Kton Liner designed to run on the Xboat Routes?

New Traveller dice would be nice, maybe even some metalic version & having variants where the 1 is replaced by a major/minor race symbol. Some new 15mm minis would be nice, especially aliens ( human SF 15mm's are easy to find that have that Traveller feel) & civilian aliens at that.

And more pdf ships plans that are set up to print 15mm & 25mm automatically like the one scoutship set where I don't have to manipulate the plans to print in 15mm.
