Chamax Plague is very nearly ready to run - it has two planetary scenarios, both of which should be weighted evenly. Both should have their own challenges.

The first one is the inspection of the Shaarin Challenger. The party wakes up the horde, and have to beat a hasty retreat.

But keep your eyes on the prize. The goals have to drive the players into risk in order to get their reward.

1. Render all aid and assistance to the ship's personnel.
2. Copy the ship's logs.
3. ?

Is there a 3? There will be cargo aboard, but I'd rather this be considered potential leverage, or even treasure. Leaving the options open there is nice.

Part of the tension is not knowing what happened to the crew. That makes this adventure perfect for newbies.

The second scenario is the rescue of surviving crew. By now, the players know the danger of the Chamax bugs, but not how to defeat them. This in and of itself creates tension, but I think the tension is best played out if they discover for themselves the effect of cold on the bugs.

In other words, the rescue attempt should require them actively planning, rather than passively observing. I'm still working thru this part of the game.

Somebody's been busy!

What is FLGS?

Friendly Local Game Store.

Ah!

Well, we've got a used book store that sells second-hand gaming books; they're reasonably gamer friendly. Otherwise, Las Cruces is a bit of a gaming desert unless you're into those Magic-style card games. Sigh.

I'm thinking of trying to con ... er, persuade ... my kids to take a shot at Traveller, but my youngest is 10 and not happy unless he's killing something - all the tactical sense of a bull, that one - and my next is 14 and usually disgusted with my youngest, as they get at that age, so getting the chemistry going, much less keeping them alive without healing potions, is gonna be a challenge.

Too true. Happily, the 10-year-old might thoroughly enjoy Chamax Plague, which involves shooting alien beasts before they devour you whole for their queen to feed on. But sibling chemistry is tricky.
